Default Did you know that after the 3rd season, 8 weeks later it was reported that

John amos would not appear in atleast the first 4 episodes of season 4. It was mentioned that the father would be away working on the Alaska Pipeline. This was because it was reported he maybe leaving Good Times and not fired yet and was still considered part of the show

Information from Press-Telegram, April 27, 1976

Wow, I did not know that. Interesting. Anyways, I think that Carl Dixon should’ve been Florida’s cousin who moved in to take care of the family after James’ death.

yup, they was already setting up the season without him in Household but didnt know for sure if he would be back. Then fans knew for a fact he would not be back at all by July of 1976 and didnt know what the story line would be.

I thought Fans for sure found out John Amos would not be coming back when The Big Move aired. I had no idea they were warned ahead of time.

The summer before season 4, it was reported that John Amos is no longer on the show but no one knew how he would be written out of the show. They only knew that it was no more father in the house.

Either the Carl Dixon character should’ve been Florida’s first cousin who moved in to take care of the family or James should’ve left Florida for the woman of his dreams and relocated with her to Florida or somewhere out of state. I feel like James growing tired of Florida and cheating on her before leaving would’ve been a little better than James just dying in a car accident.

well when you are fired the only way the character is written out is death. Having him move out of state still left the door open for him to come back. They made sure there was no chance of a comeback lol

LOL, yeah. I guess they did. But I would have been okay with them mentioning James visiting the kids two or three times a year without him being shown onscreen. And I could have bought that James was recovering from surgery or something and couldn’t attend Thelma’s wedding. It didn’t mean John Amos had to be psychically onscreen playing James.
