How does Gomer go from complete auto mechanics incompetent in season 3 episode 16 "Man in a Hurry".......to Season 4 episode 6 "Gomer the House Guest" auto repair omnipotent?

In the former you have a guy with a clogged fuel filter who is out of luck because Wally won't work on a Sunday, and all Gomer does is pump gas and check tires...... to the latter where once Gomer leaves, Wally is going broke because all the auto repair business followed Gomer.

Seem's like a abrupt turn around?

Apparently, he learned a lot from cousin Goober during that timeframe.

He had a pent-up libido that gave him super powers of focus and comprehension for a brief time, so he could learn the service manuals for all Ford models over a summer. Getting involved in rapid succession with Mary Grace, the Fun Girls, and Thelma Lou took some of the edge off, then he joined the Marines.
