The Mamas & the Papas mention "California Dreamin'," their 1965 hit, in their later song "Creeque Alley" (1967).

The first song that comes to my mind is "Travelling Band" from the country band named Sawyer Brown. They have been on the radio since 1984 and the lead guy wrote the song in 2011. If you know any of their material, you will know when an earlier song from them is mentioned.
