Superstar Canadian singer Céline Dion has announced she has been diagnosed with the rare, incurable disease Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS), which eventually leaves sufferers unable to walk or talk. She has cancelled the remainder of her European Tour:
So grateful I saw her perform in concert a little over three years ago. She was incredible to see live.... Link to news story: https://www.mirror.co.uk/3am/us-cele...=breaking-news |

^^^ I've never been a fan of her, but I pray that what she has is not life threatening even though I guess that it will be robbing her of what she is known for: her voice. (shaking my head)
God bless you and Celine always!!! Holly |

Céline Dion has "Lost Control Over her Muscles" Amid Battle with Stiff-person Syndrome, Says Sister
by Shania Russell December 19, 2023 Céline Dion's sister Claudette is giving an update on the singer's health condition as her battle with stiff-person syndrome continues. The 55-year-old pop star previously announced her diagnosis of SPS, a rare neurological disorder that causes intense muscle stiffness, and body spasms. In a recent interview with French-Canadian publication 7 Jours, Claudette revealed that her sister “doesn't have control over her muscles.” “There are some who have lost hope because it is a disease that is not [very well] known,” she added. “What pains me is that she has always been disciplined. She’s always worked hard. Our mother always told her, ‘You’re going to do it well, you’re going to do it properly.’” The elder Dion explained that while the singer (and her family) hope to see her back onstage, the progression of her illness has left them uncertain. “It’s true that, in both our dreams and hers, the goal is to return to the stage. In what capacity? I don’t know,” Dion continued. “The vocal cords are muscles, and the heart is also a muscle. This is what comes to get me. Because [Dion’s condition is a] one out of a million case, the scientists haven’t done that much research because it didn’t affect that many people.” https://ew.com/celine-dion-lost-cont...uscles-8417884 |

Sad indeed, I would HOPE they are seeking all health help which means out of just mainstream medicine.
Celine NEEDS to see this https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7793517/ |

What I think will happen to Celine Dion is the same thing that happened to Julie Andrews when Julie Andrews lost her singing voice and was never gonna sing again. But I think Celine Dion will focus on becoming an author of children's books like we saw Gloria Estefan and Leann Rimes do and they wrote children's books that were bestsellers because next to music singers have found success as children's book authors

Wow, very alarming and sad. I was just watching a recent video clip of Michael J. Fox and his Parkinsons appears to have progressed, again sad. Also, reportedly Bruce Willis is no longer able to recognize Demi Moore. These were among the most vibrant celebrities of their time.

Céline Dion Says she's "Determined" to Return to Stage after Stiff-Person Syndrome Diagnosis
by Emlyn Travis March 16, 2024 Céline Dion celebrated International Stiff-Person Syndrome Awareness Day on Thursday by setting her goals for the future. The Grammy-winning singer, who was diagnosed with the rare neurological disorder in 2022, posted a photo of her with her three sons on Instagram to raise awareness for stiff-person syndrome, for which there is no current cure, and thanked fans for their continued love and support on her health journey. “Trying to overcome this autoimmune disorder has been one of the hardest experiences of my life, but I remain determined to one day get back onto the stage and to live as normal of a life as possible,” Dion wrote. “I am deeply grateful for the love and support from my kids, family, team, and all of you!” "I want to send my encouragement and support to all those around the world that have been affected by SPS,” she continued. “I want you to know you can do it! We can do it!” https://ew.com/celine-dion-determine...gnosis-8610178 |

SPS is very Rare
SPS most commonly develops in people ages 40 to 50, but in rare cases, it occurs in children and older adults. SPS is thought to affect one to two people in a million. |

Céline Dion Discusses Living with Stiff Person Syndrome: "I Want to be The Best I Can Be"
by Jessica Wang April 22, 2024 Céline Dion isn't letting her diagnosis of stiff person syndrome dictate her life. In a new interview with Vogue France, the queen of power ballads, 56, opened up about her condition and said she's been learning to live with it after an otherwise difficult period. "It's a lot of work," Dion said. "I'm taking it one day at a time." She added, "I haven't beat the disease, as it's still within me and always will be. I hope that we'll find a miracle, a way to cure it with scientific research, but for now I have to learn to live with it. So that's me, now with Stiff Person Syndrome." The Grammy-winning Canadian singer currently undergoes athletic, physical, and vocal therapy for five days a week. "I work on my toes, my knees, my calves, my fingers, my singing, my voice," Dion said. "I have to learn to live with it now and stop questioning myself. At the beginning I would ask myself: Why me? How did this happen? What have I done? Is this my fault?" Of course, "life doesn't give you any answers," she mused. "You just have to live it! I have this illness for some unknown reason. The way I see it, I have two choices. Either I train like an athlete and work super hard, or I switch off and it's over, I stay at home, listen to my songs, stand in front of my mirror and sing to myself. I've chosen to work with all my body and soul, from head to toe, with a medical team. I want to be the best I can be." Dion said the "love of my family and my children, the love of the fans too, and the support of my team" help her most during her fight. "People who suffer from SPS may not be lucky enough or have the means to have good doctors and good treatments. I have those means, and this is a gift. What's more, I have this strength within me. I know that nothing is going to stop me." Regarding her possible return to the stage, "I can't stand here and say to you: 'Yes, in four months' [I will return]. I don't know. My body will tell me," Dion told Vogue France. "On the other hand, I don't just want to wait. It's morally hard to live from day to day. It's hard, I'm working very hard and tomorrow will be even harder. Tomorrow is another day. But there's one thing that will never stop, and that's the will. It's the passion. It's the dream. It's the determination." https://ew.com/celine-dion-talks-liv...ndrome-8637229 |
