No this isn't a UM case, but damnit if it doesn't read like one.
I'm sure you all have heard the case of the Texas woman who was abducted 51 years ago that was recently found through a 23 and me test. This woman had the most horrific life not only did the lady who kidnapped her mistreated her the "stepdad" molested her. She was a teen runaway who ended up getting arrested for prostitution. She married young and had 3 kids by the time she was 19. She lost all 3 of her kids and they were adopted out. She confronted the lady who raised her and she finally told her she bought her for $500. It's crazy how the trajectory of your life can change in an instance. I was digging deeper listening to a podcast and reading the Reddit thread and it seems the family was close to being found out so they came clean. Allegedly, the mother was under suspicion by the FBI for decades and they always believed she had something to do with her daughter being missing. Apparently she was a piece of work. People in the woman's own family believe she did sell her daughter for $500. This is a messy case and I feel sorry for Melissa her life really got screwed up. Some people on Reddit believe that due to the DNA test identifying Melissa the family tried to get ahead of the story and clean up the lies. I'm not sure seems like they were genuinely looking. Some people believe the mom sold Melissa due to Melissa starting to have "Chicano features" but the DNA match on 23andme confirmed that the husband was her biological father. This is one case where the age progression photo looks absolutely nothing like the victim. Apparently it looked exactly like some woman in SC and that is what prompted this case to come up again. The family decided to do the 23andme test. It's very telling that the mother didn't submit her DNA. I wonder if she secretly was hoping Melissa was never found? It is said she told the siblings to stop looking because it was "too painful". I don't know how to feel. Melissa looks happy in the reunion photographs. The mother was drop dead gorgeous in her youth. Very stunning. Reading up on this case had me feeling all kinds of emotions. There is also the fact that Melissa has 3 children out in the world somewhere who probably also don't know they are adopted. I found it interesting that Melissa believed her kidnapper was her real mother. It seems that most kids who are kidnapped and mistreated often are not shocked when they find out. She said her and her "mom" had no love or connection and she ran away from home at 15. This is all so tragic. |
