A while back, I mentioned to you guys the fact that I got hooked up to Amazon Prime. One of the series in which most of the episodes have been uploaded is "Different Strokes". This past Tuesday, I happened to be up early in the morning. Want of something more interesting to do caused me to watch the episode from Season 4 called "Kathy". Some of you who are familiar with that series might remember that Kathy was the girl in the wheelchair. By reacquainting myself with this episode, I realized that Kathy's mother was named Dorothy. It will take another paragraph for me to explain why I am pointing this out and how it pertains to "Gimme a Break!".
When "Gimme a Break!" first came out, it was on at nine-thirty Thursday Night. This was right after "Different Strokes". I was twelve-years-old at this stage in the game. At this point, I watched "Different Strokes" semi-regularly. It was right after I watched the episode called "Kathy" that I watched an episode of "Gimme a Break!" in its entirety. The episode that was on that night was the "Emergency". Like I have stated before, I really fell in love with the "your purse, your purse" line! After doing the research, I found that the lady whose purse Nell hung on the gurney pole was played by Hazel Shermet. I have since watched an interview of her and learned that Hazel's mother was named Dorothy. Now I see that the episode of "Different Strokes" that I watched on the night of this episode featured a character named Dorothy. This being the case, I can now make two associations with "Gimme a Break!" and the name Dorothy! |
