George Carlin could be funny and he was. I have listened and watched him literally all my life. I lived in Las Vegas thirty years ago in 1992. I noticed George Carlin was performing at one of the larger casinos and inquired about tickets, and a ticket (thirty plus years ago) was $75! I figured it would have been $20 bucks but $75. Couldnt afford that on my meager salary. George was raking it in way back then.
However, he always did this, but more so at the end of his life, was criticizing American life, was down on the government and its institutions, basically calling people stupid and sheep but it in a way that was again, funny. To me towards the end he just got way too preachy. He was sort of full of it when he would go on about how the rich is robbing the poor, while he himself was a multi-millionaire working for billionaires in entertainment. If I go see a stand up comedian (I would rather shoot myself in the eye with a harpoon than see 99.99999 percent of stand up comedians, the only two I would ever see now are Dave Chappelle and Bill Burr)...I dont want to hear how stupid I am, how stupid America is, and how devious and criminal the government and the rich are. I dont expect Knock Knock jokes but dont want a left wing sermon from again, a multi millionaire. |
