Sad Singer And Actress Irene Cara (1959 - 2022)

https://abc11.com/irene-cara-flashda...aths/12495906/

Irene Cara, the Oscar-winning singer of the title tracks to "Fame" and "Flashdance," has died at age 63, her publicist announced late Friday.

Cara died in her Florida home of an undisclosed cause.

Her publicist confirmed her death to Eyewitness News.

"It is with profound sadness that on behalf of her family I announce the passing of Irene Cara," publicist Judith A. Moose wrote.

Cara was trained in music, dance and acting as a child and appeared on stage and on television, including appearances on PBS and on Johnny Carson's "The Tonight Show," at a young age in the 1970s.

But she rocketed to fame when she was cast in the 1980 musical "Fame." She was initially cast as a dancer but then had the role of Coco Hernandez written for her and she sang the title track.

She was nominated for two Grammys after Fame, for Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Artist.

She then won a Grammy and an Academy Award in 1984 with the title track to "Flashdance," the film starring Jennifer Beals as an aspiring dancer.

She continued on with her dual career in acting and music, appearing in films such as "D.C. Cab" and "City Heat" and various television shows. She also continued acting on stage and in live musicals.

"Irene's family has requested privacy as they process their grief," Moose wrote. "She was a beautifully gifted soul whose legacy will live forever thorugh her music and films."

Irene Cara passed away? What a surprise because I hadn't heard much about her since Flashdance and then she released an album in 1987 titled Carasmatic. I was shocked to learn that she was still around because she hadn't released an album in years. I first discovered Irene Cara when she was featured in the 1993 Filmation animated movie Happily Ever Ever providing the voice of Snow White and I was amazed at the movie itself because it truly is magical and cute. And who knew Irene Cara could do cartoon voices so well and in fact when I saw Happily Ever After I thought Janet Jackson was doing Snow White's voice but then I realized it was Irene Cara's voice. She also sang the end credits song of Happily Ever After which is an amazing power ballad called Love Is The Reason that's one of Irene's best overlooked songs of all time

A magical voice. Didn't know she was still in music and acting after the 80s heyday. May she rest in peace.

One reason her career petered out was because she sued her record label for $10 million in unpaid royalties. The legal battle left her broke and although she did get $1.5 million out of a settlement from the lawsuit, it probably cost her more in opportunities.

Fame star Irene Cara had become a 'recluse' during her final years living in Florida and 'didn't talk to anyone', neighbors reveal
  • Academy Award-winning singer and actress Irene Cara, 63, was found dead inside her Largo, Florida last month
  • Neighbors say the Flashdance singer and Fame actor was a recluse and was rarely seen in public
  • One neighbor who attempted to socialize with her was always turned down
  • Another suggested the only person to ever show up at her home was a gardener who would come to mow the lawn
  • Cara, a child performer, entered the national spotlight playing Coco Hernandez in the hit 1980 musical film Fame, which earned her two Grammy wins
  • In 1984, she went on to win an Oscar and Grammy for the iconic 'Flashdance... What A Feeling'

Well it's my understanding that when a singer gets tied up in a lawsuit like that that goes on for several years, they actually usually aren't allowed to make new albums until all of the legalities have been worked out. Which is why they basically drop out of the public eye for so long unfortunately.

Yeah, Irene Cara was only 10 years older than me. I think she was a wonderful singer, may she rest in peace.

“Take your passion and make it happen!” has become an iconic lyric and perhaps even mantra for '80's pop music, however, it wasn’t all that easy for the songstress behind the song. The beautiful and immensely gifted, Irene Cara.
