This is just for those two. No "other" or "neither" option here. If they didn't interest you, just sit this one out.

I watched Jay Leno from time to time but I could never get into David Letterman's humor.

David Letterman hands down. I never liked Leno. Although my actual favorite late-night host is Conan O'Brien.

I'd say Letterman, because that way I'd be sure to catch Craig Ferguson, afterwards

I'm a Letterman fan. The Late Night NBC years were especially good. I like his wackiness and humor. He had better remotes, comedy skits and involved many crew members.
I don't dislike Leno. He's a better stand-up comedian than host. I don't think he was great at interviewing guests. I can understand why NBC picked him for The Tonight Show. He appealed to a wider demographic than Letterman. He just went about it in an underhanded way. |

I voted Leno, mostly because I cant stand Letterman, especially in his later, more famous years. I have already made opinions of the two in other posts, so I will spare you here.
Carson wanted Letterman, but to Leno's credit, he basically kept the Carson formula. One thing he was similar to Carson was that he was a good interviewer and he let his guest talk. Leno is also known as a nice guy and everyone loves him except for a few in his business, I think mostly out of jealously, which isnt entirely unwarranted. Leno did well, but probably a lot of guys would have done the job better. |

Give me Jay Leno over David Letterman any day. Letterman's an unfunny, cynical, hateful creep.
