Dorothy's husband, played by Herb Edelman, was a great character on the show and he is a good actor. We "loved to hate him" on the show and there are not too many actors who can come off portraying a "negative" type of character with such likeability.

Yes he did a good job. However in the later seasons when ideas were running short, I hated how they suddenly made him successful and rich. His job was just to be annoying instead of the leach of the former husband. But then again all the characters seemed to change in those late seasons. But the first 3 seasons, he was used so good. Not too much, not too little. He was such a great foil for Dorothy.
