This is obviously inspired by the Yong Fang thread entitled "Words and phrases that you hate (and drives you crazy)."
People referring to Reese's Peanut Butter Cups as "Reese's Pieces." Two entirely different things, people! People referring to CD's or DVD's as "tapes." People referring to a TV show as a "movie." People referring to Andy Griffith as "Andy Griffon." I've heard at least four people do this. I might think of more later. |

Local radio ads for a retirement investment advisor who insists anyone who does their ads for the correct time to apply for Social Security, pronounce social "sosul". There is nothing in the dictionary to indicate any secondary pronunciation of that word, AND I've never heard anyone else say it that way.
This could be slightly off-topic, but it's close to right. |
