Default If June Approves When...

June approves when Mary Ellen Rogers "uses" Beaver to get close to Wally. Claims that she is proud of Mary Ellen for having the initiative to mastermind such a strategy.

Isn't that "sexist"?. I mean we hear nothing but how scandalous men are when they use women for their selfish ambitions,...so why the dual standard?

Those were my thoughts too.
and the speech about:

"As a women I'm very proud of Mary Ellen, If we sat around and waited until you men got interested in us, got good and ready to settle down and have families, this whole continent of America would be noting but Buffalo's, Jack Rabbits & Grizzly bears !"

And Check out her assumed DARK RED Lipstick she's wearing !

Feminist Speech and The Good ! lol

Good points. Using the poor little kid, making like she's his friend. Her only motive was to "snare" Wally for a dance date.

And the poor little kid's mother approves?

Ward could have said, Oh, the ends justify the means, huh, dear? Who cares about Beaver's feelings?--he'll get over it.

13 year old boys are very shy around girls especially back then so it makes since that a girl might do that just to get the date. She might even take into consideration how it might make little brother feel he left in cold. The younger brother isn’t even at an age where he is interested in girls but it make it a nice thing to do.

The plot that Mary Ellen befriended Beaver and she actually brought him to her home is not realistic and worse because what is a teen girl doing with a pre-teen boy at her home ...?

Was that more or less acceptable than today ?

She was Down Right MEAN telling Beaver to go drink his ginger ale in the kitchen ALONE ! Some Friend.

Mary Ellen being THAT Aggressive is a Red Flag of inappropriate behavior. She bragged to her friends prior to the deed. Does Mary Ellen have ANY limits ? How would June feel if Mary Ellen got pregnant ? Sometimes THAT'S just how things happen. Wally would just be enjoying Buffalo's, Jack Rabbits & Grizzly Bears until enticed by the vixen ! lol

Lastly Ward consoles Beaver and June dis-approves of Ward's example and or wording +-

WHY did June not console her young son who got USED and HURT ? (Bad June !) lol

Mary Ellen deserved to be CALLED out for her somewhat ruthless behavior, be it prior or after the dance.

I can't believe June truly approved the way the script & her part had to be played.

Would a 13 year old girl really go to these lengths just to get Wally to ask her to a dance?

It was likely that plot was stretched at least a bit for comic reasons.

I remember being 13 and I would not have been brave enough or want to call that much attention to myself.
