Sad Jerry Lee Lewis (1935 - 2022)

https://www.tmz.com/2022/10/28/jerry...-rock-n-roll/6

Rock 'n' roll icon, Jerry Lee Lewis has died ... TMZ has confirmed.

The "Great Balls of Fire" singer's team released a statement Friday, saying, "Lewis, perhaps the last true, great icon of the birth of rock ‘n’ roll, whose marriage of blues, gospel, country, honky-tonk and raw, pounding stage performances so threatened a young Elvis Presley that it made him cry, has died."

A piano-playing legend, Jerry Lee is considered one of the first true rock 'n' roll musicians ... rising to fame way back in 1957 with his first hit, "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On."

Ever the showman, Jerry Lee was known to light his piano on fire to close out a show ... and he was nicknamed "The Killer" for the way he knocked out audiences.

Jerry Lee was born in Ferriday, Louisiana, and when he was 9 years old he taught himself to play piano. His father mortgaged the family farm to buy Jerry Lee his first piano when he was 10, and when he was 14 he had his first public performance at a local car dealership.

JL quit school to focus on piano and he wound up in Memphis, where he signed with Sun Studios in 1956 ... jamming out with Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash before releasing his first single and becoming a star himself.

I didn't even know that Jerry Lee Lewis was dead because the news didn't even mention it but I found out about it on Youtube. I remember the song Great Balls Of Fire because it's a really cool song and I believe Sesame Street did a parody skit of it called Eight Balls Of Fire that's so funny. I wonder if anyone will appear at Jerry Lee Lewis's memorial service that's famous and I hope they honor him nicely because he was awesome and they may never be another singer like him

Oh No

I won't doubt his cousin Jimmy Swaggart will have a tearful eulogy for him.

I am from Memphis, and Jerry Lee lived about twenty miles south in Nesbit, Mississippi.

I call Jerry Lee the "Keith Richards" of America, or the American South. The man (until a few weeks ago) was alive. He lived to be 87 years old. My question is why? And how?

Jerry Lee was nuts. He was an alcohol and drug abuser. He would do crazy stuff like shoot guns inside a room of tired party goers at his house to get the party started again. He was married seven times. Once drunk (and I am sure he drove drunk often) crashed his Mercedes into the gates of Graceland because Elvis wouldnt answer. I see and have seen so many pictures of him with other musicians like Elvis, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, Carl Perkins, and just outlived them all. It is really a wonder concerning his attitude that someone didnt beat him to death or shoot him. Imagine Ernest T Bass on drugs, drunk and guns doing whatever. Jerry Lee should have died decades ago.

I need to ask my father again, but a long time ago somehow my father was at a luncheon or get together with Jerry Lee and he thought Jerry Lee was a jerk and this is from all accounts about what he was. He just didnt care and didnt give a ****.

There is a good animated series called "Tales from the Tour Bus" made by Mike Judge of Beavis and Butthead and King of the Hill fame which lasted three seasons, and one season was about rock and rollers, country acts and mostly African American singers, and Jerry was one of them. Good show, and shows how insane Jerry Lee Lewis was. It is no wonder he was married seven freaking times and it is amazing that one of his wives of a member of his family just didnt shoot him.

I remember reading once that Jerry Lee Lewis somehow got onto the grounds of Graceland after dark, and was found by the police walking around near the mansion and he actually had a loaded gun on him! I guess they thought he was intending on shooting Elvis Presley (but I don't remember if he was arrested or what he might've been charged with). I've read that Jerry Lee Lewis was extremely jealous of Elvis Presley and really hated him.
