One of the exciting sequences I always enjoyed seeing on this classic 1970s television show was seeing Firemen Gage, DeSoto & company driving quickly out of their fire station in their trucks to effect the rescue of an injured citizen(s) in Los Angeles.
However, if you happened to live close to Station 51, I wonder if the sound of these unceasingly blaring fire truck horns would tend to get on your nerves? I used to live on a block next to a fire station in my town. Whenever (which was quite frequently) the fire engines would come roaring up my street, it got old real fast, especially at 2:00 AM, with the fire horns blasting away. I realize that the firemen had to sound the fire horns to alert any pedestrians or drivers in the immediate area of their presence, but, like never living right next to a school or place of worship, you really do not want to live near to a municipal fire station. So, I guess that’s why many firemen and police officers never live close to their fire station or police precinct. |

To be fair, it looked as if John and Roy’s fire station was located in an industrial area of Los Angeles; there appeared to be a large chemical plant or oil refinery directly across the street from Station 51. You don’t see any private homes in the vicinity of the fire station.
