Default Which soda (12 oz cola can) taste best?

I know soda is not good for you with loaded suger and empty calories, but it is my guilty pleasure. As such, I limit myself to one can of 12 oz soda a day. I like to open a can and sip on it through out the night to simulate my taste bud.

I thought it would be fun to try different brand cola to see which one taste better and carbonation last longer. This tasting was done over a month with different brand.

Ranked accordingly:

#6 Walmart Sam's cola: This cola came in last in term of taste test. It tasted ok, but it had an after taste that was not pleasant. This was also the cheapest soda at 24 12oz cans for $5.

#5 RC Cola: Only found it at Walmart, it tasted very similar to Pepsi with a sweet taste. But flavor wise, it tasted kind of flat.

#4 Pepsi: Probably the sweetest cola of the bunch, but it had good flavor. It goes good with spicy food or snack to counter the spiciness, or quench your sweet tooth.

#3 Kroger's Big K: Kroger is well known for its own quality brand, and its Cola is no exception. Very sharp taste that does not taste too sweet. Very similar taste to Coke.

#2 Coca Cola: A Good balance between sharpness and sweetness with good flavoring. But lose its bite very quickly if not drink it all right away.

# 1 Shasta Cola: This came in number one in my taste test. Very sharp taste with just a hint of sweetness as its sugar content is the lowest of the bunch (33g vs Coke's 39g of sugar). Also it retains its bite after the can been open for a while and does not lose carbonation too quick. Very good for sipping.

Golden TV,

Of the products you've selected, your ratings look okay to me. I might swap Pepsi and RC around.

My personal favorite is Dr Pepper, and since switching to diet a few years ago I believe that Dr Pepper diet is the only diet soda that actually tastes good.

Aren't you the one who gives me grief for going "off topic"? What does water have to do with which soda tastes best? By your own admission it's been 20 years since you've even tasted any soda.

My comment was directed to the OP as they commented on no value in the soda, but you chose to comment.

Little petty since it's my liquid choice, but I deleted, do you feel better?????

No, not really. I was simply trying to stack the deck for the next time you might feel the urge to bawl me out over context.

I didnt drink it for about 10 years and when I started again, most of it now tastes aweful.... The best tasting one is RC cola and then Coke.....

One time at this pizza place I made friends at,they HAD coke and switched to RC cola (Fountain machine) but didnt bother to remove the COKE logo and put an RC COLA sign on it.....

No one ever noticed, they asked for COKE and they thought it was.. (This was more than 10 years ago, probably 30+)

Its all good Caroline13. I drink alot of water too. I usually have two or three gallon of filtered tap water in the fridge. Unfiltered tap water taste too much like chlorine.

That is funny as my friend that only drink diet soda says the same thing about diet Dr Pepper tasting better than other diet sodas. Me myself not a big fan of diet cola.

In a blind test taste, it probably be much harder to tell different brand sodas apart (just watch some of Youtube videos about the subject). And that was one type of blind taste test that happened at that pizza parlor

My pick would be for Pepsi, but it would have to be caffeine free diet Pepsi. That's my favorite soda.
I've never heard of Big K cola until now.

I shop for groceries at a store that sells Kroger products and I think those Big K sodas are the best tasting and better than the popular name brands. All of the Big K sodas are good. Big K used to have a Peach flavor soda which tasted awesome but it seems to be discontinued now so I'm not happy about that. Big K has a soda called Citrus Drop which is basically the Kroger version of Mountain Dew, I like Citrus Drop better than Mountain Dew.

Double Cola deserves a mention....Although I haven't had any in 30 years, I remember preferring it as a close second to coke back before the HFCS craze.

And although I'm not a heavy consumer of root beer, I can enjoy it on occasion. I remember what an eye opening experience my first taste of I.B.C. root beer was

And, of all sources, one oddity ....the Dad's root beer people make this Orange cream soda that tastes just like a dreamsicle....everybody should try at least one.

That sounds delicious! It reminds me of Coke with orange & vanilla. That's also very good.

How about regular cream soda? Do you like that? I love cream soda!

Oh yeah, I enjoy cream soda. But I saw somewhere where cream soda has the highest content of sugar of all the carbonated soft drinks.

And since they've been telling me "you're a borderline diabetic" for 20 years now, I've been trying to shy away from over doing the sugar. The main reason I switched to diet soda was primarily to get away from the huge sugar intake I had with standard soda. Don't care if I die fat, but I don't want to die blind.

Golden: Guess the reason for my avoidance of the sodas, I did my share growing up and truly believe all the early dentistry was due to the sugar drinks. I have not had a dental issue in probably 20 yrs and have avoided all the sodas. That's my story and why I' m sure I feel more as I do.

And gotten a lot of sugary stuff out of my system.
