Default Would you be interested in seeing a spinoff or continuation of MF?

Just asking, because I think it would be interesting if there was a spinoff or continuation of Mama’s Family sometime in the 90’s with Vint, Naomi, Iola, Bubba, and Ellen where Mama dies and the family turns Mama’s house into a hotel. Maybe Eunice and Ed would even pop in here and there depending on when everyone was on better terms with Carol Burnett.

Since Ken Berry and Betty White have died we'd need different actors. Harvey Korman is also gone.

Naomi and Vint's daughter, Tiffany, would probably be part of things. Maybe we find out Mama prevailed and she was ultimately called Thelma.

It's an interesting idea.

I wasn’t talking about a spinoff/continuation in today’s time, but that does sound good. Maybe if they did a revival now, Vicki Lawrence could keep her role as Mama while everyone else is recasted. I think actor Tom Everett Scott would be an interesting choice as Vinton. Maybe Dorothy Lyman would be Aunt Effie and Carol Burnett - Aunt Myrtis (the offscreen aunt that was mentioned frequently).

I'd like to have seen a continuation. Have Vint and Naomi finally move into their own home out of the basement, they could be semi-regulars on the show. Eunice and Ed return and reunite with Bubba and they all reconcile, Eunice and Mama, Eunice and Bubba, etc... Maybe Bubba moves back to Florida with Eunice and Ed. Iola deals with the death of her parents, she's finally free from having to constantly care for them. Perhaps Mama and Iola move in together.

I think that could be a decent spin-off or season 7

I would be fine with a continuation but ONLY if Vicki Lawrence was Mama again. Everyone one else can be recasted. Maybe even have Madea pay a visit.

I like the Madea idea. Vicki Lawrence said in an interview that she’d be willing to work with Tyler Perry and have a Mama-Madea movie.

It certainly would introduce the show to a new generation, but for those of us who loved the original I think a lot would be lost without Ken Berry and Betty White.
If there is one, the best place for it to pick up not long after the original left off and include the entire family, not just the cast from the syndicated era.
One in today's time, with 32 years elapsing since the end of the original, really wouldn't be plausible. Thelma would be close to or over 100 now, although that certainly could be spun into some comedy. Naomi would be a widow unless Vint was recasted, and of course Ed and Ellen both are gone.

In today's time I think both Carol and Vicki would be great to see in their respective roles again. Naomi could be widowed, and she and Vint could have had another child. Tiffany and the other child could be young adults. Eunice would also be widowed, Bubba would be married. Who between Tiffany and Bubba have children and their ages would be an open question.

They'd play fast and loose with ages, with Mama being in her upper 70s (which is slightly older than Vicki but she's used to playing older!). Playing in her 50s might be a stretch for Carol, but she looks pretty good for her age. I'm not sure about Dorothy Lyman, but maybe she could play 50s, also.

I don't know about Beverly Archer, either. If she were available, maybe Iola could be in her mid 70s. It'd be kinda funny if she were still caring for her parents, who were now 103 and 101.

Great ideas, I’m not sure about Naomi and Eunice being in their 50s, though. If they didn’t recast everyone, maybe Mama could be like 98 or 99 (I know it’s a stretch, but she would be in relatively good health for her age) with white hair now and far more wrinkles from the last time we saw her. Naomi would be in her mid-70’s and Vinton would be dead since Ken Berry has left us (it would be a nice touch for them to mention Vint’s death in a more comical, hilarious way, like they did with Fran). Baby Tiffany would be all grown up and married to a husband who Mama dislikes (that would be another nice touch). Bubba could be a gynecologist and married to a woman who’s a nurse. Together, the two would have three children: a 26 year old, a 19 year old, and their youngest, a 13 year old. Eunice would be about 80, 81, or 82 and maybe residing in Raytown again so it would make sense for her to visit Mama so frequently. I wouldn’t kill off Ed, but he wouldn’t be seen (due to the obvious fact that Harvey Korman has passed). The same goes for Ellen. Since Beverly Archer has retired, I don’t think she would be a part of the main cast, but it would be neat to have her pop up on the show as Iola every now and then.

Also, I’d give Naomi a boyfriend who, in fact…isn’t so fond of Thelma.

Mama's age seemed to be on a "floating timeline" in a way.... She always seemed to be perpetually 65 lol She seemed to be exactly the same age in the very first family sketch on the Carol Burnett Show as she was in the very last episode of Mama's family, even though 16 years had passed in between.

It would be interesting to see what Eunice would be like as a senior citizen.

Mama's Family is over and done with. They can only do a reboot with new actors and I wouldn't want to see that.

It would have been nice to have a revisit in the late 90s or early 2000s when everyone was still alive and well.

Mama would be for sure dead now in actuality or far into being frail and in a nursing home if she was still living. She was somewhere in her late 60s or so during the series.

Ken Berry and Betty White are gone, we can't have them anymore reprise their characters.

Mama's age seems to be on a floating timeline. She remained in her mid-60s from the very first Family Sketch in 1974 until the finale of Mama's Family in 1990 lol I could see Mama still being around 65 or 66 today while the rest of her Family are in their 70s and 80s lol

Yes it would have been, and I can't think of anything offhand that would have precluded anyone from participating. The Golden Girls and Major Dad (which Beverly Archer joined immediately after MF) were long since finished and Vicki Lawrence and Carol Burnett had long since reconciled. What a missed opportunity!

I think its a show that truly ran its course. Bubba got older and Mama was losing her magic. I think Vicki did the right thing and went out on top instead of running the show into the ground. The last season was mostly meh.

Mama basically become Vickie Lawrance in a gray wig in the last season lol No offense to Ken Berry but he looked in his 60s in the last season, more like a grandfatherly type than about to be a father....Iola was pretty well the same I thought. Bubba was a mature young a adult as opposed to wild teen when he first moved in
