Eek My guinea pig had a dud litter last weekend!

I love to breed guinea pigs and my sow had a litter last weekend...all three pups died!

I tried talking to "experts" on Facebook and they said "you can NOT have a boar or sow together" or "you can't have guinea pigs breed"...those *****es on Facebook made me look like an idiot, **** those *****es!

I've bred guinea pigs and I NEVER ran into this problem...until now!

Sorry for your loss. There are a lot of unqualified crackpots posing as experts on the web. Just as there are a lot of people who believe that anyone who does not believe as they believe, is a trouble maker.

You mention the male, does anything give you the impression that he is responsible for the death? Regarding hamsters, I've heard you gotta separate the father once the litter is born.

I never had problems with the boar attacking the guinea pigs...I even separated them once the litter was born...they were probably too small to be taken care of...I may buy a nose drop and put milk in it to nurse the pups.

Sorry to hear that. Maybe you could take the dead pups to a vet to see what happen.

I threw away the bodies, but if t happens again, I'll take the guinea pig corpses to the vet...I could ask the pet store, but it's like talking to someone at an auto store....

When it comes to having guinea pigs especially if you're a new guinea pig owner is when you are buying guinea pigs or have owned one is to buy a guinea pig handbook that will teach you the ABC's of how to care and raise guinea pigs properly and you can buy one at a pet shop when you buy a guinea pig. I can guess that what might have caused your guinea pig's pups to die was that the mother gave birth too early and the pups were small and couldn't survive due to being weak. It is sad when animals die but I hope you get over your loss and pay lots of attention to the mother guinea pig too. If you do plan to get another pet try looking at turtles because they are easy to care for and don't cause troubles and are great pets. I know this because my uncle was obsessed with turtles and he had lots of them in his backyard and house and would sometimes breed them and then give the babies away to his friends
Best of luck and hope everything will be alright Mr. Cleveland,
Bestie

Looked like she didn't...and it looked like a premature litter so that may have been the issue.
