Anyone saw the 1974 movie that was the basis for Alice? I saw it today, and it was great. It was supposed to be a drama, but it had some great funny parts in it. I loved it when Alice mentioned AMC in it! It makes me want TVLand to pick up this underrated gem.

I saw that movie several times. Ellen Burstyn plays Alice in it. She created the film. Did Burstyn ever own a piece of the Alice tv series? Did Burstyn ever really exist? Burstyn went on to make a really weird film called Resurrection in 1980. She plays a woman crippled in a car accident who later heals herself with faith. I walked away from Ressurection wondering if Ellen Burstyn is real or imaginary. Does anyone know which?

"Alice doesnt live here anymore" has been on tv quite a bit lately ( Flix for example ). With the exception of Mel/ Vic Tayback and to a degree Flo/Diane Ladd its hard to tell the movie and tv show are related. Among the differences...
Movie: based in Tuscon TV: Phoenix Movie: another cook worked at Mel's TV: only Mel Movie: Flo & Alice smoked TV: not really ( usually as a joke ) Movie: drama TV: sitcom also in the movie the diner was called "Mel & Ruby's ", Ruby being Mel Sharples late "wife", could be wrong but I dont remember anything ever said on Alice about Mel's "wife". |

![]() And another something I sorta noticed was that in the TV show, it seemed like Alice referred to Don as being a very loving and caring husband and father. In the movie, they showed Don before he died and he was a real jerk! |

I've seen this flick a couple of times. Good thing I taped the movie.
May I tell you guys my favorite scene? The scene where David (Kris Kristoferson) was giving Tommy (Alfred Lutter) guitar lessons. Tommy was not trying hard enough on the D-7 string, so that he put his guitar down, and walked to the stereo and turned on loud rock music. David grabbed the record and tossed it like a frisbee, and Tommy yelled to David, "SCREW YOU!". "When are you gonna understand that I hate that $#!t-kicking music of yours? $#!t-kicking, $#!t-kicking, $#!T-KICKING!!!!!" |
