It's even more tragic that Richard Engel could have lost his life in the war torn countries he covered as a journalist, but to lose his little boy on the homefront. Do you folks know of Engel's life?

Well, Dude, good that you posted, it seems MOST here are just into a lot of
insignificant stuff. I have other stuff to post, but not going to....I can't seem to get it
thru my head if one is high on the sitcom world, other stuff is not important. Or maybe
it's just me that MOST won't accept here....ok bye for now.

It brought tears to my eyes. I can't imagine losing a child. He was the cutest little boy. My prayers for the Engel family.

Yes and I can handle older people dying a lot easier than losing little ones who are
just beginning out on their lives.

isn't it just a tad self-indulgent of you to propose that you are a fitting judge to determine what is "significant" for others?

I'm dead serious about this. So others (practically everybody here) "failed" to indulge you on this thread, that gives you the right to weigh in the balance what they should deem "significant"?

I read the story, and here is what I got out of it. The kid was born with a disabling genetic brain disorder for which there is no cure or treatment.

While it's a shame that any child would suffer, once he was born that way, what options did he have? Living with deteriorating mental faculties wondering why he is not entitled to the same "joy" in life as everybody else...or death.

Sometimes with death comes mercy. Just the perspective of an "insignificant".

In my importance of life, a lot of insignificant stuff posted here....

I have a couple cousins born with mental issues and one with a handicap and lived long lives. They were loved.

You see it's one thing to mollycoddle these individuals and shelter them from life's realities, forbidding anyone around them from using the evil "R" word, and telling ourselves that doing so is "love".

But what about when he's 20 and cant figure out why no girl wants him as her boyfriend, and anytime he goes into a bank looking for a car loan, the bank guy just laughs and hands him a lollipop?

What I'm saying is, often that cocoon we spin around them becomes a prison.

But then personally, I'd prefer to be executed over (instead of) life in prison too....

You were positing that others here were not indulging you on this thread because they were preoccupied with insignificant interests.

And I was just pointing out that maybe it's a little beyond bounds to determine what others should deem significant?

I'll tell you why I suspect this thread gained so little interest. There is a base group that you alienated earlier when you were defending your "right" to post contrarian epidemiology.....they want nothing to do with you. They also have a group of sympathetic friends who have shunned you as a token of that friendship.

AND a lot of people come here looking for a chance to escape life's discomforting realities, and topics such as this are just NOT the reason they come here.

You add those three groups together, and the total becomes..... significant...
