Walking down the street, often times Ill shake hands with a tree branch saying thank You for being here.. Last night I kissed a big leaf on one saying she looks pretty

I often wonder what goes through a plants mind when we touch them..

Dude?? Better than stomping on the plants, twigs.... My friend took a dying spider plant home the other day, it was outside my apt and neglected as I can't do what I use to do, and he says it's like a new plant, water and care.

I've got a friend who insists that farming is slavery. So, perhaps....

I'm kind to my houseplants, and that means learning their specific requirements, water, light, etc. and they pay me back with their beauty.

Pretty decent in the garden, too. my neighbors to either side have marginal success with their vegetable garden, while mine is outstanding. My tomatoes in particular are an annual source of pride.

Only thing I don't seem to be able to grow is watermellon....they never ripen

Don't forget to let us know the next time you conduct a tree funeral, there may be standing-room-only by the stump.

Nothing... plants don't have brains, no central nervous system, no thoughts, no feelings. A plant is just that... a plant.

Would you say that the ability to make decisions based upon memory, qualifies as "intelligence"?

How can you feel if you don't have a central nervous system?

I wish that I had a definitive answer for you wawwie. But it's pretty obvious the plant could distinguish "touch" , because only the petals on the branches touched with a finger responded. So there has gotta be (at least) some primitive sensory thing going on.

Just my personal thoughts, but I think that people tend to impose our frame of reference too forcefully upon other beings around us. Maybe the plant accomplishes the same thing through other means? (other than via a CNS)

Think about it this way: Just because Bill Cosby's victims didn't understand why Bill Cosby was touching them, doesn't mean they were unable to feel him doing it.....
