I have been noticing that stores are already putting out Halloween merchandise and it's not even October yet and we are still in August and September hasn't even begun yet and I would like to know what the reason is? Because I have seen almost every supermarket selling big bags of Halloween candy and stores are now putting out Halloween costumes and makeup for sale and what I see of this is that the stores are now promoting Halloween months before October begins. I remember when every September they used to promote two things which were back to school in September and Halloween in October. I think the stores are trying to repeat what they do in November when they bring out Thanksgiving merchandise and Christmas merchandise and this year I think the stores think by putting out Halloween merchandise in August will help the stores make a lot more money

Stores and warehouses operate with a seasonal paradigm. Once a holiday like Christmas passes, the Valentine's Day merchandise is rolling. After that, the Easter stuff comes in. And it keeps going that way.
Depending on the type of seller, there may be Back to School merchandise -- otherwise they might skip ahead of that, right to their Halloween stock. |

Nothing new here, commercialism works to hype people up earlier and earlier..and getting the dentists hyped for all the new dental work coming.

I work at a grocery store I just noticed that we had put out halloween/fall candy displays. I'm not proud of it but my reaction went from "this is way to early" outrage to "Oooh do we have Mellowcreme Pumpkins" pretty quick.
FYI we did not.

They probably buy all that stuff made for bottom dollar in China....so when the container comes off the boat, they gotta find some place to put it. Retail has gotten a lot more streamlined the last 20 years or so. They don't "inventory" things like they used to.....
Try asking a sales clerk to "look in the back room and see it they have any more of a particular shirt in additional sizes/colors?"....and watch them look at you like you are from a different planet. Retail doesn't operate like it used to. Now days they would rather pass that money they used to spend for big warehouses, on to their stockholders instead. Frequently the "back room" even in most large stores, is only big enough to unload the day's deliveries. And the staff are under the gun to get that product out into the showroom to make room for the trucks scheduled to arrive tomorrow. |

It's depressing as a shopper, to realize that there is very little local store staff can do to help with product availability.
All the thinking is done at corporate level, and all the locals have responsibility for is to get product on shelves. If something you are looking for is not in stock, it's because it didn't come in on the truck.... |

I love it ! People like me who don't like summer seeing the Halloween stuff already out in stores gives us hope of cooler days ! And I like Halloween and enjoy seeing the cute and scary decorations displayed in the stores !
![]() And for kids too, back to school, maybe sad that summer ended ! No more beach or swimming all day, back to the classroom! Seeing the Halloween stuff gets them looking forward to some fun again / Halloween !

I have to admit that my wife and I have already bought Halloween merchandise. We love Halloween. Of course we also bought a Grinch blow mold from Cracker Barrel also. We love our holidays.
