I had not heard of this movie until Tony Dow's tribute in the blog today. With such an all-star cast, it is too bad High School U.S.A. doesn't air on TV at all. Odds are it isn't on DVD either.

"He played Principal Pete Kinney in the 1983 NBC TV movie High School U.S.A., which starred Michael J. Fox, Nancy McKeon, Anthony Edwards, Crispin Glover, Todd Bridges, Dana Plato, Frank Bank and Ken Osmond."

I own it on DVD. It's a fun TV movie. It has many sitcom stars.

A one-hour pilot was created due to the success of the original movie, but no longer featuring the star teen actors. It was not picked up by the network, and was aired on May 26, 1984 (the Saturday evening of Memorial Day weekend).

Barbara Billinsgley, Jerry Mathers and Ken Osmond were in the pilot.

I finally got around to seeing this movie, even more of an all-star cast than I first thought with Crystal Bernard, Bob Denver, Mary Wells, and more. I was going to watch the TV show pilot, but full screen option was not available and it was such a tiny window.

I haven't watched that film in quite a few years. I mainly recalled that Dwayne Hickman ("Dobie Gillis") was a cast member. I see now that it was directed by Rob Amateau, who had been a director for sitcoms like Gilligan's Island and The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis.
