The show made it's debut on Tuesday, Sept 20, 1983 on ABC at 8pm
It was the lead show on Tuesday Nights with Happy Days and Three's company airing at 830pm and 9pm The show competed with The A-team on NBC and The Mississippi on CBS Don Corneilus from Soul Train appeared in episode 2 Richard Moll from Night Court appeared in episode 5 The actress Lynne Moody from That's My Mama and actor who Jack Fletcher who played Mr. Whittendale on the Jeffersons appeared in episode 9 There was pressure from the NAACP because the black actor who played the character "Shabu" would refer to the white roommate as Master and was seen as a poor role model for blacks. Black writers were added to the show after the pressure from the NAACP. The ranking after the first airing-9/20/83 was #33 out of 57 shows The ranking after the 2nd airing-9/27/83 was #45 out of 65 shows The ranking after 3rd airing-10/4/83, the show moved back up to #34 out of 60 shows The show was pre-empted on 10/11 for baseball After the 10/18/83 airing, the show fell to #54 out of 70 shows After the 10/25/83 airing, the show moved up to #49 out 71 shows After the 11/1/83 airing, the show fell to #56 out 67 shows After the 11/8/83 airing, the show fell #58 out of 62 shows The show would be cancelled in December and would finish the 1983-84 season as the 75th ranked show out of 101 shows Philadelphia Daily News, Sept 29, 1983 Fort-Worth Telegram-Oct 5. 1983, Oct 24,1983.
