Default Need help remembering details of something discussed here

Hi --

Longtime reader (going on 12 years, gulp) and occasional poster.

I am pretty positive someone posted to this board details of a case not profiled on UM, but rather, a case he or she solved on their own.

It involved a woman who was missing for years. Upon the case being solved, it was learned the woman's name (or maybe her Social Security number) had been entered wrong along the way. That was why it took so long to find her.

Anyone remember what I am talking about and if so, can u post a link to that thread?

Please and thank you.

I did a search for missing social security number. There are a couple posts in the Michael Negrete thread in the All Other Cases section that sort of match your details. There's no mention of entering a wrong name or social security number.

"this is probably a naive question but can parents/police check to see if Michael's social security # is in use?

I mention this mainly because of a missing woman found in my area working at a Home Depot -- she had been missing for years and presumed dead. if only her parents could have known that she was safe all those years."

"When I imagine myself at the same age, it makes me think he must be deceased or have had A LOT of help from someone close to him.

One of my co-worker's has a sister who lost touch with the family/went missing years ago. My co-worker basically bribed an FBI agent to look up her sister's social security number. It was still active -- her sister had changed her name and moved several times.

My reason for relaying this story is that it was extremely hard to find out if a person is still using a social security number."

The question is why do they make is so difficult to find out if a social security number is still in use. It seems like many people who willingly disappear could be found easier. Maybe it has changed in the years since those posts were made.

I don't think those are the cases I was thinking of, but thanks for trying.

Sounds like my case.

It wasn't profiled on UM the show.. But was a web exclusive.

Lori Reaves. IMO.. A complete **** up by the sheriff's office. Just them not caring is my opinion.

I spoke with her sister a few weeks ago. Just a brief messenger "how are you" kinda thing. We still keep in touch, usually about once a year on the anniversary or Christmastime.

At some point, if I'm up in their area or they're down in mine, we really need to meet in person.
