I've seen it, It starred Penelope Keith from The Good Life and I think they were trying to do a similar kind of show.

In its time, it was one of the most watched shows on British TV.

Penelope Keith was superb in it.

Cool

There were 21 episodes made altogether (1979-1981). Penelope Keith was relatively unknown on British TV before appearing in The Good Life, and TTMB was created as a vehicle for her. It still does pretty well whenever it's rerun on cable.

It shows up on PBS from time to time. So keep your eyes on your local PBS station for the next airing!

This Britcom Starred Penelope Keith and Peter Bowles and only 4 series were made.

The Series is available on Pal Video and Series 1 has just been released on Region 2 DVD.

It was surprisingly subversive in its own way. I remember some terrifically stuck up types who lived near me, always watching the show and talking about how nice it was to have a programme about the 'proper sort of people'. In actual fact though of course it was in part about a self-made Polish immigrant trying to fit in, and how nasty the establishment could be about that. After the last episode, when they showed the snooty types being rude about him, the snooty types who lived near me stopped talking about the show, and never mentioned it again.

Which I found rather amusing.

The first series is, yes. It's probably just R2, but if your player can cope with that you should be able to get it through Amazon.co.uk.
