Default A rival for "My Mother the Car"?

I recently remembered another sitcom I watched from the 60's that probably was on par with "My Mother the car".
"It's about time" lasted all of 26(or 30, depending on which web site you go to) episodes in 1966-67. Maybe others remember the show about two astronauts going faster than the speed of light and ending up back in the Stone Age. The theme song is all I remember, but I do remember watching it.(I think Joe E. Ross was a caveman)
I found out it has rarely(if ever) been in syndication, but out of curiosity, I went on E-Bay tonight, and there it was. So I ordered the 26 episode set.
I didn't know how to start a "New" sitcom listing, so I put it here. Maybe someone can start one for "It's about Time".

yes, I remember that show; and I didn't think it was bad at all. But then, I haven't seen it since way back when it first aired.
Info. about it; and clips (including the animated opening and the catchy theme song) can be found on tvobscurities.com

info. about it (but no clips) is also at www.tvparty.com

That was interesting seeing the animated opening after 40 years. I barely remember it, but I do recall the theme song.

"MY MOTHER THE CAR" had a single season of 30 episodes produced in 1965-'66. SONY owns the rights to the series [as they own the United Artists TV library], but are doing nothing with it as far as any future DVD releases are concerned.

Same with "IT'S ABOUT TIME" (1966-'67); only 26 episodes of the series were produced. SONY owns that as well, but again, no DVD releases are planned. Unlike "MOTHER", this series was NEVER syndicated.

Treky,
I think he meant "MY MOTHER THE CAR" was syndicated, and "ITS ABOUT TIME" was not. I got all 26 episodes of "IAT" on DVD from a E-Bayer. Somehow it got taped and put on DVD. The seller was from Canada, I wonder if that was why I was able to get it? Think it may have been shown up there but not here?

I have never seen "My Mother The Car" in my part of Canada, and I've seen almost everything. I have seen "It's About Time" on another website and, in my opinion, it's terrible! Joe E. Ross does play a caveman, and Imogene Coca is his wife. I'm not positive about this but it looks to me like the prehistoric sets look like those used in "Gilligan's Island". To watch the series yourself, look here:

I no longer have my childhood imagination, and after struggling through 3 episodes of "It's About Time", that's all for now.
The "special effects" if you can call them that, were clearly on a tight budget.

Almost anything from the 60's I'm interested in seeing, but "My Mother the car". and "It's about Time", are tough to get through.

It's interesting how we keep noting how bad "It's About Time" was, since it was set in the Stone Age and features stupid-looking cavemen trying to interact with modern humans, and now, 40 years later, we have "Cavemen", which essentially has the same premise, and it is getting ripped to shreds by critics everywhere. If you believe the hype, and it really is as bad as everyone thinks it is, then "My Mother The Car" will at last have found its true rival and, in the process, may have finally relinquished its unofficial title as worst sitcom ever. Jerry Van Dyke can now sleep a lot easier. He's a very funny man who deserves better and I'm glad for him.

Same here...I do remember Joe E Rossas a caveman......he was a wonderful comedic actor, its a shame he never got to do anything really GOOD. ( I mean the scripts were bad, not him )

Anyone remember "The Hathaways"? I watched that one as a kid (61-62).
I wonder if that could be a rival for MMTC too.

I obtained "Its About Time" off Ioffer. Gilligan's Island fans would love it. I would like to see an official Dvd release of this.

I have seen the opening from It's About Time a few times over the years, as I think that I have it on a tape of old tv show openings. I finally saw a full episode of the shows at one of the Paley museums. (I forget if it was in NYC or Beverly Hills.) The most that I can say about it is that it has a catchy theme song. The plot was so forgettable that I've forgotten it now. It seemed to be a sort of ripoff of Gilligan's Island in tone anyway if not subject matter. I noticed that Sherwood Schwartz produced (or at least executive-produced) this show while Gilligan's Island was in its last season, so having two shows going at once must have taxed him to some degree. He also created this series as well, meaning that he has sole credit for creating at least three sitcoms, Gilligan's Island, It's About Time, and The Brady Bunch.
