Color-coding characters' clothing on Mama's Family - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I'm sure anyone who has closely watched Mama's Family has noticed that each character's outfits (particularly on the Syndicated run) are color-coded. For instance, blue or purple for Mama (Thelma), brown or beige for Vint, yellow for Naomi, green for Bubba, and pink for Iola. Do these colors have any special meaning for them?

In any interview I have seen of any of the cast members, I don't remember them ever mentioning the color of their wardrobe.
I guess only the wardrobe director knows for sure.
