Cool Valerie Harper on Muppet Show

Did anyone ever see Valerie's guest spot on The Muppet Show? It was in Season 1 and is on DVD. Valerie sang two songs (Broadway Baby and Nobody Does It Like Me) and does a great job with the comedy as well. It's worth watching - a lot of fun!!

She was indeed terrific on the show. Ironically, her TV mom, Nancy Walker, guested on the Muppet Show in Season 2, and none other than Phyllis herself, Cloris Leachman, appeared in Season 3.

Not sure when this episode actually aired, but I know the show ran from '76-81, so it was more than likely when "Rhoda" was still on the air and Harper was at the height of her popularity.

I've long thought you could tell a lot about a celebrity from how well they interact with the Muppets. It takes someone who doesn't take themselves too seriously and is willing to have a little fun with their image, and do things they didn't normally do (like sing and dance).

Most of the shows I recall featured celebs who meshed really well with all of our "felt" friends.

Thanks.

I have great memories of the Muppet Show. It aired about 6:30PM in my area and I used to watch it with my folks every night right after supper. My dad, not one you'd think of as a Muppet fan, loved it too!

Those were indeed good times. The world's been a sadder place since Jim Henson passed on.

Yes, it has. His brand of irreverent, imaginative and yet somehow always gentle, humanistic entertainment is a once in a lifetime thing, I'm afraid.

Exactly. I have the first 3 seasons of The Muppet Show on DVD and am introducing them to my 3-year-old nephew. He loves it - especially Gonzo.

OMG, I LOVED the Muppet Show! It came on at 6:30 at night in Dallas too! How cool is that? I used to watch it after dinner (or before, I forget!) as well! I vaguely remember seeing this episode. I know that the Muppet Show is out on DVD, so I may rent some of them to relive my childhood! It sounds hilarious, though!

In 1996 I went to DisneyWorld for my honeymoon and we went to Disney's MGM Studios. They had a "Muppet 4-D" movie that we stood in line forever to see. I didn't care for that park at all (the REAL Hollywood is MUCH better!), but I would pay the hefty admission price just to see this movie again. I laughed SO hard. You walk into the lobby and they have a pre-show. All around are these animatronic (kind of like at Disneyworld with the "It's a Small World" and the "Pirates of the Caribbean") Muppets; Gonzo being one of them. I love him too! He's awesome! The reason the movie is called 4-D is because you not only have to wear 3-D glasses but there is a scene where Fozzie Bear is showing Kermit his new squirting flower. He aims it at the screen and water starts spraying out of valves in the ceiling, getting the audience all wet! Then he says he has a "remote control pie-in the face" gadget. He aims it toward the screen and I swear I freaked out, thinking it was going to hit us in the face! Then at the last minute, it turns around and hits him instead! I would give anything to see that again! That movie made it worth the price for that park!
