Default How did you first discover TMTMS?

This board is kind of dead, so I thought it might liven things up a bit if I borrowed an idea I've seen used on other boards.

How did everyone discover TMTMS and end up becoming a fan?

Here's my story:
I always used to watch Nickelodeon during the day, and in 1991, I was finally able to stay up late enough to see N@N, and since I didn't really know what other station to watch, I watched N@N. They just happened to be having a marathon to welcome their newest show to the line-up, which was TMTMS. I started watching and was hooked. I had been a fan of TDVDS for a while before, but it took me a while to put two and two together, LOL. At first I just loved the TMTMS theme song, and I remember thinking that "the bald guy" (AKA Murray) was funny.

OK, that's my boring story, feel free to share yours! LOL

Hey Kristen!! I watched Mary in the 70's!! I LOVED!! the show then and all the cast members. Saturday night was a great line up then. Anyway, I loved Mary, the partys that flopped, Rhoda, her own show, and of course the location of the show!! lol. I stil watch the reruns, have the TV Guide cover from the last show, autographed photos of Mary and Valerie from then as well. I'm happy to see her doing well now and hopefully she and Dick Van Dyke will do something as hinted on Larry King!! So that's that!!

Actually, the ARE doing something together! They're doing a production of the play "The Gin Game" for PBS. It's supposed to air in the first quarter of 2003. More info is posted at my site.

Great thread Kristen! I first started watching TMTMS about 7 years ago. My family had just moved to a new neighborhood (I was crushed and thought my life was over at age 12, lol) and my older sisters had moved out, my dad was away on military duty and my mom worked so I was pretty much a bored kid stuck at home with nothing to do, and that's when I discovered Nick at Nite (ie-The Dick Van Dyke Show, I Love Lucy, and Rhoda in addition to TMTMS) and the rest is history. So anyway, it kind of filled a nice void in my life for a while till I made friends and such and now it still makes me happy and I can watch the episodes 10 times and still laugh as much as I did the first time.

How's that for a sappy story?

I'm not quite sure when I started watching The Mary Tyler Moore Show, but it was over a year ago. I fell in love with The Dick Van Dyke Show first, and after a few episodes, I knew the name Mary Tyler Moore. For a few months, I never even realized that she had another show.

I think the first time I saw it, my roommate had it on. When I walked into the room and asked what she was watching, I though, "That is Mary Tyler Moore?" I was so shocked because at first I didn't think she looked like Laura at all. It took me watching the rest of the show to see that it was really her.

Since then, I've recorded some marathons and watched it when I can. I don't consider myself a huge fan (I still like The DVD Show better), but I do watch the show when I get a chance.
