When the soap opera genre was introduced to the world it brought a whole new style of show to the TV world that kept fans on the edge of their seats till the next thrilling episode. But have you noticed that soap operas today are different than the 80's soap opera episodes? Is this because the soap opera genre is slowly dying and people are watching other types of shows such as game shows and talk shows? Take for example in the 80's and 90's soap operas used to have thrilling adventure storylines and fabulous weddings and new baby scenes but today's soap opera episodes have few of those scenes. My mom remembers watching the famous Luke and Laura wedding from General Hospital from 1981 and that was when wedding storylines became a huge obsession for soap operas. And when new babies are added to soap operas the storylines are wonderful and I remember my mother and I would marvel at the sight of babies added to The Young And The Restless episodes because they were cute storylines but you see few added to soap operas today. Another thing that has caused soap operas to go downhill is the changes to intros new theme songs and the absence of commercial sponsorship plugs along with new actors/actresses replacing longtime favorites. Take for example I have never figured out why General Hospital went with a new intro and a remix of the theme song by Dave Koz in the 90's? I think it was a shock to fans who liked the original General Hospital theme and intro that this new intro ruined it because it was a classic theme and intro. A second soap opera to do this was Days Of Our Lives and when the new intro was announced in the 90's Mom and I liked it because the theme was Disney-like but I know some fans perferred the original version of the intro. And finally what happened to commercial sponsorship plugs on soap operas? My mother and I loved those and we would guess what was the product sponsored on that day's The Young And The Restless episode but for some reason today's soap operas do not have commercial sponsorship plugs and I think they got rid of them for money reasons because it was cool to see Tide Mr. Clean and Kellogg's sponsor soap operas. But if soap operas would go back to the way they used to be they would gain a new audience to watch them
