In week 9 of the 1969 NFL season, prior to a game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Los Angeles Rams, the Eagles, at the last minute, prevented actor and singer Jim Nabors from performing the National Anthem, infuriating not only Nabors, but especially infuriating the NFL and CBS officials. The reasoning behind it was unbelievably stupid, dealt with a jinx and superstition that was absolutely ridiculous, and to the shock of no one, this move did not work out the way that the Eagles thought it would. This is the story behind that bizarre controversy.
