Default Charlotte Rae on The Paul Lynde Show

Charlotte Rae makes an appearance as "Charlotte" on the Paul Lynde Show in 1972.

Very funny episode! I'd never seen this show before, although of course I remember Paul Lynde from Bewitched and Hollywood Squares.

Charlotte does a great job as his sister.

Of course, Charlotte, Paul Lynde, and Cloris knew one another going back a long way.

I agree. The red really complimented her.

I saw this a few weeks ago. I've been periodically binging The Paul Lynde Show on TV via YouTube.

It's a bit surprising in retrospect that Miss Rae would have ever been on Mr. Lynde's show. As per Cloris Leachman's autobio, when the three of them were in Northwester, Mr. Lynde would actually mock Miss Rae's Jewish background and send her off in tears BUT he'd also make everyone laugh so that's why she (and evidently Miss Rae) accepted that rather unpleasant aspect of him. Oh, Miss Leachman also said that before either of them knew what 'gay' meant, the co-eds knew that Mr. Lynde fit that term!

Charlotte and Paul remained close, despite that snarky aspect. He could be very cutting, but it's also clear they cared for one another.

The pair became known locally as Lubotsky (Rae’s maiden name) & Lynde.

“I remember a sketch where we played a drunk George and Martha Washington, and Paul was just hilarious. He had a wild and wonderful sense of humor, although he could be a bit sadistic. He was always very agitated about his future career and desperately wanted to be successful, as we all did.”
Interestingly, Paul is not listed in the episode where Charlotte (and Julie Pie) appeared on The Hollywood Squares.

I know, right? But since it was a sketch at Northwestern, I doubt it was recorded.

THAT is one of the funniest Friends episodes of all time. I don't even know how Lisa Kudrow said that line, or how she didn't crack up afterwards. Brilliant writing, brilliantly delivered. (Almost as funny as Phoebe with a "posh" accent when she visited Mike's parents).
