NARRARATOR

Well how do I start this off? (Pause) Well okay how about this. It started with a girl. It usually does but this girl was different. She was my protector, my sister and my best friend. Her name is Denise Page or just simply Deni. Now Deni is the best friend I could ever have. When someone knocked my block tower down in pre-school she put it back up and then kicked the person. She ended up going to time out. She always says it was worth it. My friend has stayed with me for years. From pre-school to this very day Deni has been there for me.
Right now I’m 23 years of age and I’m a teacher at an elementary school, my money hungry parents are ruining my life and my family and friends are all crazy. That’s just about it.

(Inside of a dim apartment. Focusing mainly on a couch and television)

NEVAEH

(Crying and blowing her nose) The only thing is that Joanie did Love Chachi. They had their own show to prove it. Beside her parents never decided to ruin her wedding. (Pause) They only had 3 days but it was still great and happy. Too happy for reality.

(Leans forward and turn the TV off)

All too happy for me. Couldn’t they show something like a horror movie? Maybe Scream…

(a faint knock is heard closely by a voice)


VOICE

Nevs? Are you there or crying your eyes out? It won’t help you at all. Nevvie open the door it’s me--Denise. I have a key anyway so if you don’t open it I’ll be there.


(Nev hesitates to respond but get up opening the door with a box of Kleenex in her hand)

NEV

Okay Den, come on in.

DENI

Well that’s great. Nice to know you didn’t pull a soap opera stunt. I really don’t need you dying then seeing your evil twin claiming to be you. (eyes roll playfully)


NARRARATOR

Yup. That’s my best friend in the world. She has a way with saying things. She knows exactly how sensitive, determined, charming and sad I can be. I am pretty charming.

DENI
(eyes wander over to the Kleenex as she walked into the room)

Let me guess…Facts Of Life again?

NEV
(closes the door)

Nope but close

DENI

Who’s The Boss? Taxi? Family Ties?
One of those I can’t stand...well I can put up with Taxi

NEV
(eyes roll)

Happy Days. Last episode and those shows are actually very nice thank you very much. I’m not the one who wastes her time with Dawson’s Creek

DENI

Okay, but seriously now. You can’t keep doing this. Doing whatever you’re doing every day.

NEV

Doing what? I’m doing what everyone wants to do. I’m living a perfectly normal and healthy life. The parents didn’t call yet and my sister hasn’t bothered me.

DENI
(throws her arms in the air with a dramatic look)

You’ll get a date! It’s not like someone breaks up with you and it’s the end of the world.



NEV

Hey! It isn’t like that. He broke up with me and he broke up the engagement just to move in with his secretary, Dawn. She always gave me weird looks in the office. I could never stand her anyway.

( A knock is heard on the door. Nev walks up to the door after exchanging looks with Deni and opens the door. Her eyes widened as she closed it)

Oh dear.

DENI

Who was it, Nevers?

NEV

My mother and father

DENI

Are you going to get that?

(Nev raises her eyebrows)

DENI & NEV

Nope
