Default Because they're old???

I was watching GG the other day. And I was thinking....The Golden Girls had to be one the most if not the most raunchy show of it's time. But they never had purist groups and other annoying people after them for the spicy dialogue. And then you had Married...With Children in which the dialogue was just as spicy maybe even less spicy and people were all on their nuts.

My question is....Do you think The Golden Girls got away with a lot of things because they were old????

If you think I'm crazy for asking this....remember this line???

Blanche: "I politely waved to Ms. Susan over Bill's shoulder with my foot"

I don't think that's the reason. I think it was because GG was SO well-written and SO funny, you couldn't get mad about it. Probably anybody who would've complained ended up cracking up by the end of the episode!

Certainly, GG pushed the envelope plenty of times during its run. I would have to agree that the writing was so fantastic and intelligent that people would just laugh instead of being offended. I love all the witty double-entendres and innuendo!!!

I think that it's because it's funny, and the actresses are so talented, and you can relate to them.

Absolutey, the writers were allowed to push the limits with innuendo and blatent raunchiness because the actresses were older. The initial post in this thread prompted me to go back and watch an interview with Rue from last February in which she discussed this. So I popped it in the VCR and she said (exact quote), "I didn't realize that we were going to be allowed to go further with innuendo than we might have been allowed to go had we been in our twenties."

'Than we might have been allowed to go had we been in our twenties' is of course the key phrase here. I think The Golden Girls is a lot more provocative than many shows on television today, ie:

(From 'The Beep Beep Beep of the Tom Tom')
Blanche: I just keep thinkin' how you're not supposed to overload electrical sockets.
Rose: Maybe you just shouldn't make love when you're wet!

Filthy!!! (And I love it!)

Yeah, I do have a Betty site, Betty White Online (http://www.geocities.com/goldengirlskatie), but I stopped working on it a year ago. I found that I didn't have the time (nor, in all honesty, the interest) for that site, which is why I gave it up. I also felt like it never really got off the ground like my Rue site did (in terms of feedback and recognition). I hated to give it up, but admittedly, after meeting Rue a few times, my interests shifted completely and I just quit working on it, which was actually a relief. There used to be a lot more content, ie. I don't have photo galleries anymore because they were all hosted on Homestead (the web host I used to use for my Rue site). So I don't really know what all is still there. I haven't visited it in a really, really long time. LOL!
