I am to the episode where Jan Brady is stuck in bed and Bill pays for a doctor to test her.
It's shows like this that glamorize certain professions and make them saturated with people thinking that is the way it really is. |

Bill heads up the construction company Davis & Gaynor. So he is in a position for his firm to bid on very lucrative projects, including overseas, such as bridges.
While the position of engineer can be among the higher-paying professions, being chief executive of an established firm as contractor can place one into an elite level. We see on occasion that Bill is directly involved in hiring, such as when he tells the stone mason (who finds the twins wandering lost) to come work for him, and when he promotes a worker to draftsman. Of course, he also arranges for Emily to work in the apartment in the final season. An engineer working for others' firm generally would not have the type of clout an executive like Bill has. |
