I was really surprised that there was a sidewalk all the way across the Golden Gate bridge, and that you could walk from end to end, there was a big navy submarine coming in to port as I walked above. Being able to walk from the intersection of Haight and Ashbury streets to Golden Gate Park at 3 am and feeling "at home" was pretty cool too. I lived in the Bay area for 3 years, and got to do most of the touristy stuff, but those are the two that I most fondly remember.

Big Sur, especially the portion around Lucia....great scenery, very relaxing.....one can find serenity there.

Was not all that impressed with Hollywood, nightlife was too diverse for me, and I'm not talking about skin color. Lived in LA 11 years, there are nice things you can find to do, but overall it's an armpit.

Lake Tahoe was swell. I think that I enjoyed renting a boat and exploring it myself better than I liked the casinos

Utah was mega cool....all of it

Denver Colorado? lots of fun things there, and in the surrounding areas. I lived there for a while. The most impressive thing I remember is the civic pride. You could go downtown at 6 am, and see the shop owners sweeping the sidewalks in front pf their stores.

Chicago was neat, overall...I particularly enjoyed the museums

Niagara Falls? "okay" glad that I was there, once

New York City...pretty disappointing overall. too dirty, too much humanity, I was surprised how dingy most buildings looked, almost like the pictures you see from back when coal was a primary heating source. But it was cool being able to see all the iconic landmarks....But, New Your City...I was as glad to leave as I was to first get there. There was a definite "ahhhh" moment the instant I felt the wheels lift off the runway. I'm kinda shocked that the Native Americans have not started demanding the removal of the Statue of Liberty?

Smoky Mountain National Park - yeah pretty cool...including all the Native American tourist trap stuff nearby.

Atlanta Georgia, Yanno? it's kinda cool the way they relish the past, but after a while (I lived there for 6 years) you start to feel like they need to let go of things. I'm waiting to see if the activists eventually prevail over Stone Mountain...the laser show was cool, so I hope they keep the monument.

Miami Beach touring the art deco district was cool, I love that style of architecture, and happening to be there just after I saw Al Pancino's "Scarface" made it especially memorable. I guess the movie made the decay and filth seem like it "belonged" there?

Florida Keys? yeah pretty nice.....I enjoyed some of the more obscure middle keys more than I did Key West.

Gulf Coast of Florida I enjoyed much more than the Atlantic side. That 96 degree water temperature made it feel like you had a Jacuzzi the size of the entire planet...Captiva island a definite keeper Panama City nice too, but those paper mills really stink.

Texas Honorable mention, the Big Texan restaurant in Amarillo

Meteor crater, Arizona...I guess I am glad that I went there, just because so many people talk about it, but I was glad that it was just a side route for me as I was passing through anyway. I think that I would have really been disappointed had I gone there specifically for that.

US Route 66---what can you say? It's a shrine probably no better way for someone to experience a cross section of America than to just get on it and drive. I feel the same way about US Route 24 also. even though it does not enjoy "shrine" status.

I'll elaborate more later, and I've been to a lot of so called tourist attractions, but for NYC and I enjoyed my visits there, great food, but rude rude fast moving people...would rather knock you down than say "pardon me" or "excuse me:...
