I realize this may be a tough question to answer, but if anyone with a spectacular memory is also an aficionado of the Odd Couple and/or had a memorable Christmas Eve 1971, maybe that person could answer.
Most episode guides and even the DVD order of episodes has the season 2 episode "Felix the Calypso Singer" as episode 13 of that season and denotes an air date of 12/24/71. However, in looking at TV Guides of the time, and newspaper archives, all indications are that the episode "Scrooge Gets an Oscar" from season 1 was aired (or scheduled to air) on 12/24/71 (which makes sense given it was Christmas Eve). All of the same sources also seem to indicate that "Felix the Calypso Singer" aired on 10/22/71. I realize that possibly FtCS may have been pre-empted for one reason or another on 10/22/71 and then aired on 12/24/71, although I find it highly unusual that it would be a surprise, i.e. not communicated to the TV Guide or other outlets, that it was to air at the later date. But, at the same time, usually the episode guides and DVD ordering is correct, so it's likely to me that FtCS did air on 12/24/71. Does anyone remember what they were doing on 10/22/71 or 12/24/71? I was just one year old and not into the sophisticated humor of the Odd Couple and/or it was past my bedtime. Thanks for any insights! |
