Default Did you think Fonzie was a Loser?

If you think about it, Fonzie really wasn't cool at all. The guy was a loser. How old was Fonzie supposed to be? He had to be at least 21 years old when the show started right? And he hangs around all these high school kids all the time? Anyone that's over 21 and hanging around high school kids is a loser with a capital "L". Fonzie was hanging around high school kids for years! He also had an "office" in the boys bathroom in a diner where all the high school kids hung out, he was a drop out that lived as a border with the Cunninghams....this guy was NOT cool.

I know, Fonzie did change as the series went on, and he made something of his life, becoming a teacher and all, but for the bulk of the Happy Days run, he was more of a loser then a cool guy.

(keep in mind this post is in fun)

!!!!!! Thats the Fonz your talking about!!!

Hehehe...nahh, Im just teasing you LordGarth. Yeah, he was older-like a brother- but since hes so cool, THE FONZ- we totally overlook it! Plus, hes like the only guy who didnt really age. Think about it, yeah the gang (even the EXTRAS, so it wasnt always high schoolers he hung around with!) went to college, Fonzie didnt. They never really aged him, (although they switched from a white T shirt to a black one since he gained some wait {C'mon now! Look at how small his legs were 1st 3 seasons, then look at the last! lol-yea he was 40 but still}). So when they boys left he hung with Chachi and Joanie. Joanie who was 14 years old when he called her shortcake. Oh yeah, heres a mistake I found in the Happy Days episode..the one where Joanie helps that drugged out student: Fonzies lecturing her and hes like remember when you and Jenny were 8 and played Barbies?? He didnt meet her until she was 12!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
lol, in conclusion, the Fonzies the "coolest"-although I find Richie and the gang rather *keen* myself, so I guess as the old quote goes, age doesnt matter (between friends).

Actually as the show goes on the writers made it seem like Fonzie was always friends with the Cunninghams. in the episode "no Tell Motel" where Joanie and Chachi are in the Motel together. he threatens to give back the pothole Joanie gave him when she was 8.
from what i understand, the first season never "happened" in the eyes of the later writers....

Default I've got an explanation for this one

If Fonzie hung around people his own age, I think he would've mellowed down a lot. He had that edge to him since he hung out with younger people.

The Fonz was never a loser. He was the "Dear Abby of Arnold's" alwways giving out help and advice to anybody that needed it. They solved the problem of always hanging around Arnold's by having him help Al redo the place before Rich and Ralph left, so he always had an excuse for being there. And he DID mellow, starting with the episode when Richie was almost killed in the motorcycle accident, until he adopted Danny in "Passages". For all 11 seasons, he was always cool!

I agree with RADWELL3, he was always cool!! He's always The Fonz, he helped everyone, he talked Malph out of joining the Marines, he helped Rich out a lot, he helped save Potsie from drowning by putting a life jacket on him , in the ep. where Pots. gets pinned among other thigns he's done in the eps.

Actually, in this magazine I have, Henry said the Fonz was 19... and this magazine if from when L&S first started... in '76.

That's what he said, anyways.

Thats what I always thought--19. I mean, eww if he was 21 and dating high school girls! Obviously unless they were 18 thats fine, but some were supposed to be 16ish. 5 years isnt a big deal, but in the 50's Im sure some Dads would have been very mad!!! lol. Anyways, 19 always looked good..not too old for them, yet not the same age!

He was no loser... I mean he always hung around Ritchie and Ralph and all the teenagers but I didn't see anything wrong with that, you should've mentioned that that's just strictly your opinion. I don't get why you people come to these boards to diss something about it, what's the point of that?

I dont know Toots, I dont know!! People are entitled to their opinions, but yes they should state them. Like the fact that I loath Chachi and LoriBeth...nothing personal, and I dont intend on insulting anyone, just my opinion. Fine as actors, but hate the characters...in MY opinion.

Well just remember, he was 19 when the show started, which means he was 29 by the time the show ended, and I do remember him still flirting with the High School girls in the later episodes. So you can go back to saying ewwww again.

Leicb..have you got a name yet? How about LaverneShirley? Or LaverneFonzShirley?

I wouldn't call Fonzie a loser. Sure most 50's cool cats probably wouldn't have hung around younger high school folks. But Fonzie had a great gift. Maybe someday someone could "interview" him one of us maybe & find out what his secret with women was. Or how he could hit a jukebox & have a song come out. Plus he was cool, mostly, but I wouldn't say always. There were times that he would take advantage of Ritchie because he was much squarer than the Fonz, & there were times when it made me mad. But Fonz was special because he wasn't perfect & he knew it. He never could say I'm sorry, instead I'm Srrrrrr. Or I was wrrrrrr wrong. I think that had a lot to do with his appeal too
