First episode of season 5, it's been years since I recall last seeing it, yet today when it was on Metv, reminded me that it is one of my favorite episodes.
Seeing the Cleaver parents stress over the prospect of Wally growing up, only to be relieved after he gets a dose of reality.....is priceless. Particularly enjoyable, but I recall that when watching this episode as a child and as young adult, I found the quarrel between the young married couple to be discomforting, even painful. Something that I really wished was not part of the program. But now, years later with scars of my own....I get quite a chuckle out of Wally's girlfriend's attempts to distract Wally from the heat of battle. And the part at the very end where Ward and June reflect wistfully over Wally getting a dose of reality...was classic! Four stars ![]() ![]() ![]()

Plus it had a future star, Ryan O'Neal, in the cast.

Yeah, good episode, or at least I like it.
While I think on LITB the June's reactions to "Wally's growing up....Oh my" as she clutches her pearls are characteristically over the top, I can see the Cleaver parents getting a bit rattled at Wally associating socially with a young married couple. I too agree it was fun to see Wally's girlfriend trying to smooth things over at the somewhat tumultuous visit to their apartment. Every time I see this, I see a young Ryan O'Neil and think to myself and sort of say to him how in just another dozen or so years, you'll work your way up from a harried young husband to a glib huckster piloting a Model A ford across the Kansas prairie with a precocious 9 year old daughter.
