Exclamation Family Ties is becoming untied

Okay

I'll admit this

Family Ties is a good show.

But when ever it comes on IT IS SO ANNOYING!

I hate almost perfect families! Have you ever heard of ANY of the Keaton kids getting even an A-? All straight A's for them!

And what's up with Mallory and Nick? They go great together, but I know Nick wants sex out of her and then to dump her. Because he isn't smart, he only knows partying and sex.

Alex talks about money waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much can't get get a new hobby like getting laid?

The only episode of Family Ties I ever liked is when Elyse and Steven hit Mr. Texen? Is that his name? It was really funny hehe.

But other than that, Family Ties is starting to get on my nerves. Have it move to the Hallmark channel or something hehe. Replace it with another hour of Cheers or The Cosby Show.

I removed the picture as it was huge, causing the table to extend (with horisontal scroll bars) and everything being very hard to read - Besides, the picture didn't really add anything as it didn't have anything to do with Family Ties /Daniel.

I think it's interesting that u list Family Ties as one of ur fave shows and say in ur msg that it's a good show (which we all know already!), but then go on to claim that its annoying. Whats with the contradiction??

I don't know if you have ever seen the episode "Big Brother is Watching", but in that episode, Mallory is caught cheating on a pivital algebra final.

Also, in the episode "Paper Chase" Mallory's graduation is reliant on the grade she recieves on a history final. In this episode, it is revealed that Mallory currently has a 'D' in history. If she didn't pass her final, she would be forced to repeat the 12th grade.

I never saw Nick as really the partying type. I seems that he's spends most of his time with Mallory, or working on his bike, or working on his art. In fact, he's has expressed his love for Mallory many times. In "Mr. Wrong" (parts 1 and 2) Nick even agreed to elope with Mallory.

Family Ties was a family oriented show. What you refer to as "getting laid" would have been too inappropriate. However, their was one episode in the first season where the show delt with Alex's 'first time'. If you're interested the episode title is "Summer of '82". In addition, Alex was involved with two long term relations: With Ellen and later with Lauren. What they did when the camera wasn't on them, is up to the viewer.

And about Alex talking too much about money? I feel that that was one major aspect that made up his character. You never had seen that kinda of character prior to Family Ties!

Family Ties Quotes:

Mallory: Alex, I told you whenever you take a message to write down who called, when they called, and what it was about.
Alex: I did. Somebody stupid called, sometime today, about something trivial.
Mallory: Alex, you know that could be ANY one of my friends.

Mallory: I know you came into my room and read my diary Alex!
Alex: Don't be silly, I just came into your room to get a book.
Mallory: Ha! What would a book be doing in my room!
Alex: *shrugs* She's got me there.

Mallory: You guys, I would like you to meet someone. This is Jamie Carter.
Alex: AHHH!!!! *jumps onto Steven's lap*
Steven: Alex, she said "Jamie" not "Jimmy".
Alex: *to Jamie* Oh. You should seriously consider getting that changed.

Jennifer: There is nothing like a smile from a hunk.
Mallory: I know, it's even better than when you walk into your
classroom and you see a movie projector set up.

It's not that bad of a show. Just like danielle17 said, what they did when the camera isn't on them is up to the viewer. I hope it doesn't get replaced with another hour of Cheers or Cosby Show. Those shows suck! Family Ties is a way better show than either Cheers or Cosby.

Default Family Ties

Hey Rain Man, I wrote a post a while back called "My Assessments of the Keatons" and You should read that sometime. It mainly states mostly the same things you are saying.

Yes, "Family Ties" would get on one's nerves, but You know, I still like the show. It's just like saying I hate "All in the Family" because of all the racist and sexist comments made by Archie, but it's still a pretty funny show.

If you somewhat look at it, Alex Keaton was like a teenage version of Archie Bunker, only he was not as bad as Bunker was.

The only thing I'm happy about the show is that I'm glad I don't have a family like that. My assessments post was my viewpoint of the Keaton family if I were living with that family.

Family Ties became unenjoyable during seasons 5 and 6 where Meredith Baxter and Michael Gross went from lead characters to mere supportive players. The Alex emphasis was a bit much and many of plots became repetitious and when Andy did the instant aging it was a miniature version of Alex. Season 7, the final one at that, was more enjoyable because you saw Meredith more and more stories was dealing with Steven and Elyse. Personally I thought Meredith was miscast in that role because she was more of a dramatic actress than a sitcom actress.

Family Ties never gets old!! I rather like the fact that they are nearly a perfect family. With all the problems our society now faces, I watch shows like Family Ties just to enjoy a perfect family where everything always works out in the end. It is kind of like a stress reducer. Like I should be finishing an essay right now instead of typing this post about my very favorite show.

LOL Donald. that is so true, if you dont like the show, dont watch it!!
and to say they were all perfect and got straight A's is wrong......
they had alot of shows dealing with not so brady bunch topics.
like the one where alex was taking speed to stay awake and study.
after staying up so long, he finally crashed out, slept late, and missed the test he was studying for.
im pretty sure he didnt get an A for that one

No, In fact it brings back memories of my childhood in the 1980s.
as for the show being to sweet and lacking in conflict i have to beg to differ. some of the early epsiodes dealt with Steve's estrangements with his father. No the show did not have the Parents acting like Roseanne and Dan Conner, but the inactions between parents and children seemed ok.

Family Ties is one show from my childhood, or any for that matter, that never becomes annoying over time. I love it too much!

I do get sick of those "preachy" episodes from time to time. They seem a little overdone for a show that is supposed to be a comedy. That "A, My Name is Alex" one where his friend dies in car accident is too depressing to watch. But, ironically, Fox won the Emmy for his performance in that episode, in particular.

I think the best part of this show is how Reaganite Alex mocks his ex-hippie parents with his conservative philosophy. That part of the show never gets annoying, as far as I'm concerned.

The show is good for what it is. It is made for tv in the 80's before a lot of the censors were lifted on a lot of topics, but the show did deal with a lot of issues just not a in your face kind of way.
They dealt with teen pregnancy, drugs (not the really illicit stuff but still they dealt with the issue), marital temptations with another person, cheating in school, sex, disfunctional family members, there was even an episode about a friend of Mallory who killed herself, children fighting with their parents, and even racism

No not all these things took place with the immediate stars of the show but the stars of the show were forced to deal with the issues.

TCS is the same way, so for the person who said TCS and Cheers was better, well tell me how the kids on TCS were any different. None of them were pot heads, pregnant, or overly disobedient. The show always ended with them being happy. And how many people do you know that have parents that are a Lawyer and the other a Doctor? And if you really want to get picky, where is the reality in TCS and Cheers?

Most shows from the 80's are crappy by today's standards cause we have become immune to the nature of todays shows, but for its time period its just another show that dealt with issues in the form it was allowed to. It is just a matter of how you look at the show.
