Default The worst episode of this show was when…

Mama was seeing Grandma Crowley. LOL. Am I the only one who thinks this? I’m sorry, but I can’t stomach watching Mama yelling at herself for half an hour.

While I agree with you, but considering how Grandma Crowley was a far more sour and bitter proto-Thelma, I think it would have been interesting to have seen how Ellen, Vinton. ..or Eunice might have reacted to her- and whether they'd wound up (kinda) appreciating their mother for how she was considering how much WORSE their grandmother was!

It was certainly one of the strangest episodes.

I always thought it would have been neat to have Carol Burnett play Thelma's mother....had she been available

I think that episode is pretty funny, myself.
I love when Thelma starts yelling at her mother and the others(who can't see her mother) think she is yelling at them.

The only episode of Mama's Family that I did not like was the episode called "The Big Nap" when Mama dreams that she's a private investigator investigating the disappearance of Iola's mother.

Carol and Vicki were not speaking during that time. Its written in Vicki's book that when the series got picked up again in 1986 Carol was outraged that Vicki wanted to use her (former) husband as the director again. Carol thought she was taking sides in their divorce. Vicki just wanted to keep everything the same. So even if she was available, I doubt she would have done it.

That's rather sad! IIRC, Miss Lawrence didn't actually like the late Mr. Hamilton as a person but had merely tolerated him as her employer/friend's spouse. It seems since Mr. Hamilton had somehow won the rights to keep producing 'Mama's Family' after his split from Miss Burnett, Miss Lawrence wanted to keep herself and the rest of the cast and crew employed so she gritted her teeth and tolerated him as her boss on-set but otherwise continued to avoid him as much as possible. Oddly enough, her dislike of Mr. Hamilton wound up being one of the things that Miss Burnett held against Miss Lawrence for a time after Mr. Hamilton's death (and this despite the fact that not only had they divorced but Mr. Hamilton had remarried a few months before he died) . Yes, they have long since settled their differences and resumed their friendship.

I knew they weren't speaking, and it's too bad, a few appearances from Eunice during the syndicated years would have been nice. I always wanted to see Bubba interact with his mother at least ONCE.

From what I heard, Carol was wanting to do a Eunice and Mama sitcom around the time Mama's Family went into syndication, and Vickie was somehow under contract to do MF with Joe Hamilton. It would have been interesting to see how that sitcom would have gone over

Hey, quick question, are you Jonna King on YouTube? Just curious, if you are, I think I saw you comment on a Mama’s Family clip.

Yeah I tuned that one out. But the WORST was that bratty kid Eugene. I hate bratty kid episodes and most sitcoms had one.

I thought the worst episode is the one with Mama and Naomi competing is a wrestling match dressed as giant bees.

I don't like the episode where everyone leaves for the weekend and she is alone, talking to herself and bored out of her mind. I think she calls people in the church directory and goes dancing in the rain.
