I think Mike is in the Air Force Reserves. And if I recall correctly we never see a graduation (in fact, in 12 seasons, we never see any graduation). I think Mike was a college freshman in season 1.

Mike was in college in season 5. Did he go to graduate school to still be in college 5 years later or did people take more than 4 years to graduate back then like they do now?

Okay about the Reserves.

Crazy Some Guys Just Like Staying In College Forever

Mike was still in college and in the reserves in Season 5. Some shows he'd be a college boy others he was in the reserves, others he disappeared entirely.

But starting in Season 6 the color years he's suddenly now an assistant teacher of psychology at an Eastern University. I detail all this in another thread about Ernie's dog Wilson.

Mike was a high school senior in the first season.

As I was re-reading this thread just now, I thought I was wrong about Mike being in college in the first season. He started college in the 2nd season.

Cool Lesson to learn, don't believe your own press

That's right, Season 1-that's when Mike and the perfect girlfriend for him, Jean were both in high school. They even did shows on them going to graduate high school. I was sorry to see "Jean"go as she was perfect for Mike, I wish she had come back. She could have too after her own TV series tryout (Margie) failed. She left her successful job at Sons to become a "superstar" on her own but things didn't work out that way (hello Farah Fawcett and Suzanne Sommers just a couple others who left a big time series thinking they'd become superstars on their own only to wallow in obscurity afterward) so after the Margie debacle she could have come crawling back. I don't think they would have sicced Tramp on her.

Jean came back for a guest appearance later, but by then Mike was probably engaged to Sally.

At least Mike didn't wind up like David Nelson (the character) who somehow hung around his old fraternity for no less than eight years- even after he graduated from college, became a law clerk and had gotten married!

At least David went on to be a law clerk and then a lawyer (but we never saw him at law school). Wally just hung out at the fraternity for around 8 years.
