I have been watching Here's Lucy for the first time in years on Tubi and one thing that I have noticed is that Harrison Otis Carter (aka Uncle Harry) is perhaps TV's nastiest boss between Mr. Slate on The Flintstones and Louie DePalma on Taxi. He constantly torments his sister-in-law/secretary Lucy and the two get into shenanigans that's very funny. Gale Gordon plays the role so well and it's just like Mooney in The Lucy Show.

The odd thing is that since he wss ALSO Kim and Craig's paternal uncle (and their late father's brother), it's a bit much that he did little if anything to help them directly when they're still minors -regardless of how incompetent a secretary his sister-in-law Lucy had proven to be. Also, he spent zero time trying to help raise or even bond on his own with his late brother's fatherless young son and daughter- regardless of how annoying he considered their mother.
Mr. Mooney had had no blood or family ties to Lucy Carmichael's two kids. Yeah, I know that the comedy was supposed to come from Lucy's clashes with Harry and Kim& Craig were more or less straight foils for her (especially in the early years, though later on the now-grown Kim DID have comic interactions with Harry on her own). |
