Default Rich people who got away with it

I don't know if somebody has done this topic before, but I can think of 2 cases where rich people got away with serious crimes.

Richard Minns
Al Henderson

I'm sure there must be others...

Robert Blake
Claus Von Bulow
Ted Kennedy
Michael Jackson

However, this thread starts and ends with OJ Simpson. Perhaps the easiest case ever that was bungled from many different avenues.

Except for Simpson, I don't think any of those cases were featured in UM.

Why?

1. He changed his story a few times.

2. He said he left Jean at the casino's door and she went inside, but she couldn't be located in any of the CCTV videos.

At first, I believed him, but I changed my mind after knowing of these discrepancies. I think he killed Jean and disposed of her body somewhere before getting to the casino.

I believe Al's bookkeeper when she says she spoke with Jean over the phone during the Wednesday evening before her disappearance. The problem for Al, is that there is no known sighting of Jean after this phone call. She was reported missing less than 24 hours after this Wednesday evening phone call. But there's no motive. Means? If he killed her after an argument in their hotel room (her engagement ring and other jewelry was left behind in the room), how did he dispose of her body with no one seeing? His last phone call on Wednesday evening was placed at 7:32 p.m. Al surfaced on the surveillance videos the next morning at 9:15 a.m. I just don't see it.

This bugged me too...he was too old and frail to dispose of a body.

The only thing I could think of is, they were out West and a drivable distance to canyons. He could have drove her to a overlook at a canyon rim to watch the sunrise or something, then pushed her over...if he's real familiar with the area he could have scouted a place ahead of time, where he knew she wouldn't be found.

The bookkeeper said she talked to Jean around 7 pm. After the call, Al could have taken her out for dinner, and killed her.

Maybe he was too old to accomplish the task himself but he got the money to hire somebody to do the dirty work.

He lied when he said he had left Jean at the casino. I don't see a reason for such a lie if he wasn't hiding something.

They get into an argument the night prior, Jean calls off the engagement, and storms out of the room. Al arrogantly thinks she'll be back once she cools off, goes to sleep. Wakes up, and Jean's still gone. Does a cursory search for her, and can't find her at any of the casinos. Eventually he calls the cops after checking out. Knowing that he was the last person that saw her alive, he invents the story about dropping her off at the casino to make his story sound more believable, and to make himself seem less suspicious.

I'm always reminded of the Carolyn Killaby case when thinking about this case. Carolyn's husband blew her off to hang out with his brother, so she went to a local bar and met up with Dennis Keith Smith, who murdered her that night. If no one noticed Smith leaving with Carolyn (whose body has never been found), Carolyn's husband suddenly looks like the most guilty person. I just think foul play not involving Al, shouldn't be dismissed with regards to Jean's disappearance.

Chick and Pat Smith. They used their money countless times to break the law in order to help their son Chuck kidnap his two boys from their mother, Carolyn. They bought Texas constables, bragged about how Houston Police officers worked for THEM and were somehow able to get Carolyn and her PI detained at the London airport long enough so they could sneak the boys out of the country. When Carolyn sued the Smiths for one million dollars, the judge awarded her $54 million! But the Smiths told her right there in the court room that she'd never get a dime.

Given the amount of times they broke the law, it sounds like they should have been arrested long before they were featured on UM. But rules tend to be different for rich people. UM did mention eventually that they had to file for bankruptcy, but I don't remember many actual charges against them.

I didn't know of this case, I hope the boys and their mother had left behind those years so now they can have a normal life.
