Default Money Talk and What is ENOUGH of Everything in Life?

I'm one who wishes to choose important topics to discuss in our lives.

My daughter and I have this discussion often and me coming into the world in 1938 and she in 1967 our perspectives are far apart.

We Americans spend spend spend and accumulate and accumulate and then work on getting rid of all the Stuff.. I'm not a spendthrift and not a waster and not cheap but know what is important and what is not. I've made errors on Stuff I've purchased that I never needed.....Anyone here guilty of this one.

A person on another group years ago and a really down to earth, grounded person,. would always mention what is ENOUGH.....

Food for thought folks... and some have SO MUCH of everything and so many are hungry.

I sometimes ask myself, is it a want or a need? I have bought things because it was cute or something. I have gotten rid of a lot of things, because it became clutter and I thought someone else will enjoy it. I donate a lot to thrift stores. I try to save more money now and spend less.

I believe that a many of the values we hold dear, are bullschidt.

Contrived by advertising agencies to brainwash us that by owning the trinkets they peddle, will make us "elite".

Secret to happiness in life is in finding contentment. Took me 48 years of being an "A type" personality before I finally discovered what was truly important.

Once they get you to "buy-in" to their system, then they own you. With a sufficiently large mortgage, a couple car loans, and a few kids you're trying give a decent "launch" to...our keepers can keep us jumping through their hoops pretty good.

And in the end the main thing you'll likely have to show for it all will be a house that both the builder AND the bank profited handsomely on.

So fortunate to be a rat in that race.

Wants and Needs!!!! I can still hear my dear ole Mom, saying "Save Your Money, Save Your Money", and to that I would say, "Oh Mom".....

If I had only saved a little more I'd be a bit more comfortable now at this old age....and I've been hearing for years that Social Security would be gone by 2036 and that's only 14 yrs away and those years go fast.....

So some advice for you young people....Old age is not so golden for many many.....many struggle...

The possibility of Social Security going away in 2036 is cause for concern for me personally. I'm only 37. So Social Security will be gone when I am only about 51. Scary shait to think about!

My best friend died at 64 with a million in savings. He always wanted to go to Italy. Save some money but have fun - it is later than you think.

A rheumy was talking about this about probably 8 yrs ago when I saw her and as I've heard "they" have been taking from the SS fund for other political issues, she was probably 45 or so at that time and a struggling young MD,. Tighten your purse strings. One has to pay into the system to get money from it, so I feel MANY will be hurting.

The $1,000's people give to the tech world is astounding. For all their toys...
