Default Weigel Broadcasting to launch Story Television as sixth network

https://www.robertfeder.com/2022/02/...ixth-network/?

Chicago-based Weigel Broadcasting Co., the innovative home of MeTV and four other national television networks, is about to launch a sixth — featuring historical and factual programming supplied by A&E, History Channel and other cable networks.

Billed as Story Television Network, it will bring an impressive library of nonfiction series to broadcast television for the first time, including “Biography,” “The Men Who Built America,” “World War II in HD,” “Modern Marvels” and “Mankind: The Story of All of Us.”

will launch nationwide March 28 on stations owned by Weigel, Hearst Television, Marquee Broadcasting and Maranatha Broadcasting, among other affiliates.

Does this mean they will make Decades a full-retro television channel? They can move Through the Decades to this new channel since it fits the theme after all.

With all the retro channels such as METV and Decades being very popular it's finally time to have an educational channel that is good but will teach people about history. I think Story Television will become a smash hit when it debuts because a lot of people are history fans and Story will be a change for people who mainly are obsessed with sitcoms and other genres. While it may have competition with Discovery Channel and History Channel and National Geographic Channel Story will be unique in it's own way considering that it's gonna be the first history oriented antenna channel in TV history that will give Story a chance to shine. Some of the shows that might be a good fit for Story might be,
1. Nova
2. In Search Of
3. Nature
4. Ripley's Believe It Or Not
5. BBC's Planet Earth
6. Strange Universe
7. Rick Steves Europe
Bestie

Oh I know. I was just saying that on the Decades channel there is a tv show called "Through the Decades" that would fit well on this new Story TV channel. And if they move that show over, Decades can then be a fully dedicated retro tv channel.

To some extent this feels like the rebirth of what basic cable was in the 1980's. I want to make to make it clear, I'm not complaining just stating an observation. This has the feel of back in the day A&E/History Channels.

What I'd like to see is the must carry rules extended to all subchannels. I'd also like to see a consumer protection bill passed which would move all regional sports networks to their own tier so consumers would no longer be conscripted to subsidizing sports teams and leagues they have no interest in.

Most of the story programing will come from programs that been previous seen on A&E and History channel on cable.

No sign of Memphis getting it. Doesn’t look like a channel I would have much interest in though

So what does this mean for metv plus in chicago? Right now it is on 26.5 but then this Story channel is taking over. I hope we aren't loosing it. I would prefer Metv plus then this Story channel. Does anyone know if its moving to somewhere else, and I hope it will be on a channel I get.
