Default Notes on 'Larry Hides Out'

First one is about Mrs Mondello:

When she calls the Cleavers and tells Ward about Larry missing, at least twice, when she says Mr Cleaver, it comes across to my ears as "Mister Creaver". Yes, with an "R". How strange.

Second is how the usually sage cleaver parents fail to connect the dots:

It comes to pass that both Cleaver parents find out about Larry running away from home. Ward asks Beaver if he saw Larry outside ( since he left Larry's house ) and asks Beaver to let them know if he sees Larry, and Beaver responds, that he'll let them know if "I see Larry outside". Just the slightest lilt of a half truth to his conversational cadence and vocal inflection. Ward is satisfied.

Then the Beaver asks his mother if he can eat his dinner up in his room. I mean, come on! She couldn't connect the dots?

Wink Amouuus (Mrs. Mondello as Florrie on Real McCoys)

Mrs. Mondello is great, I always like to see her. Leave It To Beaver has been back on the shelf for a while now, I'm currently watching The Real McCoys and Mrs. Mondello plays Grandpa's girlfriend, Florrie. She's perfect in that show too. I love her voice when it cracks a little and has that sweet innocent quality.

I just saw Mrs. Mondello sitting on a bench in FKB.

Mrs. Mondello on FKB is edited out on TV. You only know she was on by watching the DVD or having seen the episode back in the 50s.

There are several noticeable problems with Larry Hides Out. Beaver's on a phone conversation with Larry--we don't see Larry on the other end, but Mathers really over-acts on his side of the conversation.

After that, next thing we know, Larry's there--we get hints of it with Beaver's half-truth answers as mentioned above. But it seems there's a scene missing, as though the episode had to be cut (originally) for time. This is one reason I'd like to see original scripts.

So Mrs. Mondello calls the Cleavers and Ward says, he's not there. Without even checking upstairs. He knows Beaver and Larry are best buds. As mentioned it's beyond believable that both parents wouldn't suspect something.

And wasn't it convenient that Beaver and Wally just happened to be hauliong the suitcase up and Ward and Mrs. Mondello just happened to be at the den window at the same time?

That he does. Excellent observation.

Yeah, I rolled my eyes when I saw that, and in a way similar to Beaver's jacket ( on 'Beaver's Jacket' ) it seems each pull of the rope has a long-ish pause between them. The suitcase sits right at window level for several seconds as if deliberately beckoning Mrs Mondello and Ward's attention. I guess if they still didn't notice the producers could have made the suitcase painted bright white with "Larry's Suitcase" in black letters.

The jacket was even worse. They showed it bobbing up and down several times.

Totally agree about the suitcase and jacket but that jacket literally hangs in front of the window as they cut back to Wally and Ward discussing Wally not seeing anything. Huh the jacket is right there. If I were hoisting up a jacket it would go whoosh.

Back to Larry Hides Out, I don’t understand how neither Ward or June don’t question Beaver in more detail. All of a sudden he wants to eat in his room? If June can figure out that Ward bought the clock radio and not the Wallet lady and if Ward can figure out that Beaver did something to the baby rabbits then why act dumb about where Larry is. I guess it’s the only way the plot works. If Ward went upstairs to search for Larry there’s no story.
