The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation announced today the following Nominees for 2022 Induction:

Beck

Pat Benatar

Kate Bush

DEVO

Duran Duran

Eminem

Eurythmics

Judas Priest

Fela Kuti

MC5

New York Dolls

Dolly Parton

Rage Against The Machine

Lionel Richie

Carly Simon

A Tribe Called Quest

Dionne Warwick

To be eligible for nomination, an individual artist or band must have released its first commercial recording at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination. Seven out of 17 of the Nominees are on the ballot for the first time, including Beck, Eminem, Duran Duran, Dolly Parton, Lionel Richie, Carly Simon, and A Tribe Called Quest. This is Eminem’s first year of eligibility.

“This year’s ballot recognizes a diverse group of incredible artists, each who has had a profound impact on the sound of youth culture”, said John Sykes, Chairman of the Rock

and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation. “Their music not only moved generations, but also influenced the sound of countless artists that followed.”

Nominee ballots are sent to an international voting body of more than 1,000 artists, historians, and members of the music industry. Factors such as an artist’s musical influence on other artists, length and depth of career and the body of work, innovation, and superiority in style and technique are taken into consideration.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame offers fans the opportunity to participate in the Induction selection process with the 2022 Induction Fan Vote sponsored by Ohio. Find It Here. Today through April 29, fans can vote every day at vote.rockhall.com, or at the museum in Cleveland. The top five artists, as selected by the public, will comprise a “fans’ ballot” that will be tallied along with the other ballots to select the 2022 Inductees.

Inductees will be announced in May 2022. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2022 Induction Ceremony will take place this fall. The date, venue, and on-sale information will be announced later.

In my opinion, Devo and Pat Benatar are the only worthy nominees on the list.

I agree that The Guess Who and America are also worthy of nomination.

City Boy is a band that had a string of great albums from about 1975 to 1980, they are also worthy of nomination.

Head East and Starz are two 1970's bands that had a string of great albums and they are also worthy of nomination.

Lake is a 1970's/80's progressive rock band from Germany with a string of great albums and they are worthy of nomination.

Suzi Quatro is worthy of nomination and deserves to be in the hall of fame. She is still active and released a good album in 2019, and another good album last year in 2021.

No Dice, Hero, Teaze, and Trigger are shorter lived 1970's bands that also had some great albums, in my opinion these bands are worthy of nomination but I doubt it will happen. The last I heard about Teaze is that they are active again as a band and have a Facebook page.

In 1980, Scram, a melodic hard rock group from Ohio, released their one and only album and it is an outstanding album indeed. For that album alone, I believe they are hall of fame worthy and deserve nomination but of course it isn't going to happen.

Hoping for Duran Duran, they deserve to be there. Why? For one, they were very popular and brought more underground music to the mainstream. Let's not forget all of their big hits that still hold up today. Finally, never underestimate their influence. Listen to any alternative band of the past 30 years and you will hear Duran Duran in the music.

Whether or not you agree with the artist/band and their genre, each of these has been influential and driving forces in their respective fields. I would be a liar though if I didn't want Pat Benatar to win it big and get this recognition, even though her fans know how great she is anyway.

Dolly Parton Removes Herself from Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Nomination List
by Andrea Towers
March 14, 2022

Maybe one day Dolly Parton will be a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. But it won't happen in 2022.

On Monday, the country legend announced on social media that she was removing herself from this year's nomination pool, citing that she didn't want "votes to be split."

"Even though I am extremely flattered and grateful to be nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, I don't feel that I have earned that right. I really do not want votes to be split because of me, so I must respectfully bow out," she wrote in a message on Twitter.

"I do hope that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame will understand and be willing to consider me again – if I'm ever worthy."

I love The Guess Who and America.

I've enjoyed Dionne Warwick's songs a lot, especially when she was working with Burt Bacharach & Hal David, but do those fit the Rock category?

Was a mistake from the onset to call it the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. Should have been the (granted, more generic, but more accurate) Music Hall Of Fame.

I heard someone on the radio today making that exact same point.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Rejects Dolly Parton's Request to Remove Herself from Nominations List
by Joey Nolfi
March 18, 2022

After iconic singer-songwriter Dolly Parton announced she intended to remove herself from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 2022 nominations list because she doesn't feel she's "earned that right," the organization announced Thursday it will not remove her from contention.

"From its inception, Rock & Roll has had deep roots in Rhythm & Blues and Country music. It is not defined by any one genre, rather a sound that moves youth culture. Dolly Parton's music impacted a generation of young fans and influenced countless artists that followed. Her nomination to be considered for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame followed the same process as all other artists who have been considered," the Hall's statement read, adding that, prior to Parton's rejection of the nomination, her name already went out to its 1,200 ballot voters for induction consideration.

"We are in awe of Dolly's brilliant talent and pioneering spirit and are proud to have her nominated for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame."

Dolly very fickle...

Dolly Parton Changes Her Mind on Rock Hall Nomination: ‘I’ll Accept Gracefully’

Six weeks after pulling herself out of contention for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, saying she hadn’t “earned that right,” Dolly Parton has had a change of heart. In a new interview with NPR’s Morning Edition, the country icon said would indeed receive the honor if she’s voted in. “I’ll accept gracefully,” she said. “I’ll say ‘thanks’ and accept that.”

^^^ I wouldn't call it being fickle. She is just letting it be known that she is able to look at the situation from two different perspectives.

God bless you and Dolly always!!!

Holly

P.S. I would feel the same way if I were in such a position. How did Johnny Cash feel about his rock and roll hall of fame recognition if he was still alive when getting put in there?
