The Missing Fish

This was an episode about Fish's last day at the precinct. He was being forced into retirement and he was depressed about it. About half way through the episode Bernice gets a call from Barney Miller saying that Fish never showed up for work. Bernice said that he left for work four hours ago. A detective ends up showing up at the house and asks Bernice some questions. He also asks the kids some questions about the police scanner that they're planning on giving Fish and they end up selling it to him because it's stolen merchandise and they don't wanna get in trouble. Then Bernice gets a call from Sargent Dietrich asking her to look around the house to see if Fish left a note. The episode ends with Bernice telling Charlie that she's going to the precinct because if something had happened to Fish then she wants to be with him, but if nothing happened and he was just late then she's going to kill him.

I kept thinking that there had to be a part two to the episode, but there wasn't. It ended with Fish still missing. No explanation. Bad writing in my opinion.

Just watched the episode and you was right he was still missing when episode ended. And I thought retirement blues would be on youtube which is the 2nd episode for season 2 but the only eps that were on youtube from season 2 was the first ep and 5th episode

Just found out that the Missing Fish aired on Saturday, September 17, 1977 and he finally shows up at work on Barney Miller that aired on Thursday, September 22, 1977 called Goodbye Mr. Fish Part 2 which is below. So looks Part 2 concluded on Barney Miller 4 days later. And by time Fish aired again the following saturday on Sept 24 1977, he was already retired which was the ep Retirement blues.

Cool! It makes sense now. I've been watching my Fish DVD set and it was confusing to me how things played out on there because part 2 of the episode isn't on there since it's a Barney Miller episode.

Would have made more sense to start season 2 after his farewell on Barney Miller so people watching on DVD or syndication wouldnt be in the dark
