Walter Ralph Emery, Country Music Hall of Famer and host of TNN primetime talk show "Nashville Now," died Saturday at the age of 88. Emery "passed away peacefully" surrounded by his family Saturday morning at Tristar Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, Emery's family wrote in a statement. "Ralph had a deep love for his family, his friends and his fans," Emery's family said. Emery was born in McEwen, Tennessee in 1933 and grew up with a deep love for radio. Known as the "dean of country music broadcasters," Emery began his career at WTPR in Paris, Tennessee, eventually moving to Nashville's WSM in 1957. He gained notoriety for his informal and relaxed interviews with country music stars. Emery hosted "Nashville Now" from 1983 to 1993. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2007, heralded as "the most famous TV and radio personality in country music." Emery leaves behind his wife, Joy Emery, his three sons, five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral arrangements will be announced. |

May he rest in peace. My mom used to watch his show in the mid to late 1960s. I was little and didn't really pay much attention to it. I think it came on in the early morning back then, when I'd be getting ready for elementary school.
